After Gale's horrific motorcycle accident they had to change their storyline plans somewhat. I think whether he comes back or not depends entirely on the speed of his recovery. I think he was in intensive care for several days and was touch and go as to whether he would survive. I also believe he really trashed his shoulder. After looking for it, I found this: http://www.celebridiot.com/2008/10/15/gale-howard-seriously-injured-motorcycle-accident/ Gale Howard, the new cast member that plays Teri Hatcher’s boyfriend in Desperate Housewives, has suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. According to reports Howard is currently in the intensive care unit a the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. A statement from his representative stated that Howard has suffered a fractured shoulder and should make a full recovery.

yeah but he has been out of the hospital for awhile now.. and i had heard they were going to slowly work him back in with him doing like scenes where he was on the phone with her (but not showing him) and they had that on a recent episode then they had the episode they broke up on.. im thinking he took too long in recovery or something and they just decided to ditch him

I just noticed that that news article quoted his name wrong. It is Gale Harold not Howard. I couldn't find an update on his current condition though.

I found this on his fansite under Jan. 9th: “We are working on bringing him back to the show. We just don’t know when,” Housewives producers say in a statement to TVGuide.com. “Because we had to work around his absence, the story doesn’t require him immediately. But we would like to have him back on the show very soon.” http://gale-online.net/
