hit and run??

I did hit a dog once and tried hard to do the right thing. The dog got up and ran off through a field. I went after it because sometimes even though they can run off they may be severely injured and go somewhere to lay down and die. I couldn't keep up with it though and lost him. I went to the area houses and described the dog but no one seemed to know who it belonged to. That was the best I could do. I hope of course that the dog turned out to be O.K.
