I don't think this package will help anyone or this economy. I really hope it doesn't pass we will be paying for this one for years. This package will not get me to go shopping that's for sure. I don't even see much about job creation in this package. So what do you think a bunch of pork or what?

Moneymommy, I just watched our president and his vice-president make speeches on how this "economic recovery" package was imperative to the welfare of the middle class. I believe that this "stimulis" package is going to have the opposite effect on our economy and it will do even more damage to an already heavily burdened middle class. Many people are under the false impression that they will be getting another round of stimulis checks and this in not the tax cut that Obama is promising. What you will get is a $500 for singles and $1000 for couples tax cut to be applied to your withholding. What this adds up to is a whopping $9.61 per week for working singles and $19.23 for working couples! PLEASE, don't spend that all in the same place, spread the wealth around!!LOL

I know I think a lot of people think they are actually going to get a check. This is going to be a nightmare....

I guess its all about how you look at it. If you took the extra 9.61/19.23 and put it consistently in the stock market every week, whether you purchase a mutual fund or the same stock, that truly is a stimulus package. The problem is many believe they need to have a lump sum of money to "do" something and never realize it is all about allocating your funds consistently and in a planned fashion

I am not so sure that "pork" is the right term. I actually think "bull$hit" is more appropriate. However, I need all the help I can get right now, so if Obama wants to send out more checks, I will certainly cash mine. I will use mine to try to pay off some debt. I feel that most smart people will do the same thing. I can't afford to spend the money to "stimulate" the economy. I need to use the money I receive to try to get some relief from the debt I am in. Here is an idea for Obama and the rest of the powers that be up in Washington...If you want to bail someone out, how about taking those billions of dollars you are giving all those huge corporations and send some of that money down to those of us who are struggling. My wife and I make a COMBINED income of less than $50,000 per year. She is a manager in a restaurant. I work as a cashier in another restaurant. I have an Associate's Degree, but I cannot find a better job. I have resorted to looking for a second job, even if that job is a minimum wage job in another restaurant. My wife can't get a second job, because she is stuck trying to take care of an elderly father and a disabled brother. A LOT of people I know are in similar situations. People with college degrees that can't find a job...so instead of bailing out corporate managers who obviously don't have the common sense to manage money effectively, SEND THE HELP OUR WAY! Help the people who are really suffering. We don't have big bank accounts or stock portfolios to fall back on. We could really use a little relief...
