Reading for knowledge and learning - Reading a book for knowledge, learning or enjoyment.
Hi there Ann, Well, I don't know if I should be as forward as to say this the way I am about to, but I've never been one to mince words so here it goes. In my not so humble opinion, if we use Mylot as a research sample I would have to agree with you, that if you don't use it you will indeed lose it! Oops! Did I say that aloud? On a more serious note. The saying "use it or lose it!" did come from somewhere and I believe has definite merit. Whether we're talking about our body, mind or our spirit we need to exercise it, stretch it and practice flexing our muscles. We need regular exercise to stengthen our bodies. We need to do some sort of mental activity to exercise and strengthen our minds, and I know it's a touchy subject, but we need a spiritual exercise of some sort to nurture our souls. (I don't want to turn this into a religious discussion, so I don't care what kind of spiritual exercise youengage in just something, which nourishes your soul or your spirit). So yes, I do believe that reading is an important part of who we are as human beings. We need to read to learn, and to problem solve and enjoying reading makes a learning and problem solving easier. That's just my not so humble opinion and 2ยข worth. Happy Mylotting!

All I know is we all use our brain daily. So I can not imagine if we will not use it anymore. But in order to make our mind healthy, we should relax and read a lot. It really helps.

I love to read and I cannot imagine living a life without books! I'm sure that I heard somewhere that if you regularly nurture your brain, that is to say if you keep on reading then your brain cells will increase and this can only be a good thing surely. If you don't use your brain then it gradually starts to wither and I'm sure that you will experience many problems later on in life. This doesn't relate solely to reading though. I'm sure that this also applies to whatever you do in life where you have to concentrate and use your brain. I suppose this could also relate to practical tasks and problem solving. I'm into computers and so I love reading computer books on maintenance and so forth. I also love reading different books for escapism and pleasure. I am currently reading Harry Potter, this must be the second time that I am reading the series now! Happy My Lotting. Andrew

Sometimes my brain need to refresh. I don't use my brain when I am sleeping. Even when I do a meditation, here's exactly I may not use so, I must wiping out all of my memories for a while. Not of all time I need to use the brain. But if I do not use it in activity it's seems so idiot. So I use my brain only when I need

Yes I agree your point. If one human's brain not functioning well remaining all will become very danger advert effect on our body functionality. We have to use our brain a lot to bring it to a form which will be able work on its under control. All hormones and nerves functionality based our brain functionality. You can keep running your body until your brain able think on its own and carrying all its functions on its own. We have keep it alive and up to date. Its everything nothing more to add.

I agree that if we do not read, if we don't exercise our muscle, it will atrophy just like our neurons in the brain it will die which causes memory gaps. I feed myself with various infos., but I prefer to read most is the Bible. (^_^)

this is a ggood book to feed your brain on we have to give our brain something good to feed on we can,t just feed our brain on junk and trash this is a vital organ that we need each and everyday. it has 5 essential parts that we need to stay a live such as breathing and many more part.our neuron has to be feed.

I agree to what you said that our brain needs to be nourished. We need to feed it with ideas and we really need to use it. Because we have this saying that "What we don't use, we eventually lose." We need to read, to interact, to use our brain in order for it to function well. Because if we don't, we tend to forget things we used to remember so well. Our brain will deteriorate as well as our being. I think that what we feed our brain reflects what we are, what we do and what we say. We use our brain to make decisions and we based this decisions on whatever things we know and experienced. So our brain and what we do with it,is really a big part of who we are.

In school I always felt like my brain was loaded with trash, and I still feel that way sometimes. They should cut out all the unnecessary parts of education (prepositions -- prepositional phrases -- gerunds -- participles -- part-participles -- when will I ever need this?! Am I going to look at a sentence one day and point everything out just for fun?) and just teach what's absolutely necessary. I can't imagine not being able to think for ourself. Personally I'm one of those kids who likes to read; I especially enjoy series and tearjerkers. So I keep my brain healthy... I hope :D I don't think a brain will actually die from not being nourished by intellectual activities, I think the person in question will just have a decreased IQ.

when i say your brain will die if you don,t use it not literal but as having a brain and you never use it for anything but junk.we get from our brain what we put in.do you know there is so many who can not even think for them self they have to ask other people for they even make a move.when all they have to do is think for them self.

Ya I do agree with that. I can just say that with a small example. Lol. Long back when I never used my mobile phone, I was able to remember all the birthdays and the things that I have to do each day and also many phone numbers. But now with the use of mobile phone we just save those things in the mobile and will never try to store it in our brain. So its hard to do that now after so many days. Now my mobile got crashed and I lost all the contacts and the birthdays. I think I have to refresh my brain again with some new things. Lol. Happy mylotting.

I just think the more variety of things you read the more knowledge you have. The more aware you are of things. I don't think if you don't read your brain will die. I just don't think you will know much of anything. It's always good to read everything you come across. It is a wonder the things you will learn.

Any unused faculty atrophies is a law of nature. And learning is one which stays on ans will be useful only if it is frequently recalled to memory and put to use. Such recalls and uses are going to fire the respective neurons form longer term memories and neuronal circuits in ready form to turn out useful "conclusions'. This applicable more for brain based learning. There is body based learning which once trained remains more or less for ever. One example id riding a bicycle or driving a car. You learn driving and perfect it. Keep driving for say 10 years. Then let there be a gap of another 10 years. You haven't once driven in that time. But in the 11th year when you take up driving again you may be rusty a bit and even clumsy to begin with, but within minutes or at most in an hour you're ready to roar. Instead take for instance learning Math. Let's say you had learnt Calculus, for some 5 to 6 years. You had mastered it quite well. But give a gap of 10 years before you try to recall again. You will find it very difficult t o even get at the right definitions. Such mental learning needs constant reinforcement to be in a state of preparedness. Why has nature built the learning ability/disability in such a skewed manner? To me it appears the answer lies in "survival". A body based learning like swimming is necessarily a learning for survival. So, the learning endures. Whereas forgetting Math doesn't endanger life.

your brain is a powerful weapon its a photocopy machine we can revert back to it as many times as we need too if we don,t use it we lose it.we only use 1/3 of our brain and look what we have done.just think if we used more of our brain what we good do.

I agree. In order to keep our brain active, and alive, we have to read. Watching tv, I feel doesn't do anything for the brain. During that time, I see it as the brain shutting off. I've heard that reading helps it, and clears your mind. Also, I use to have such a bad memory, and I started excersising my brain. I read atleast 3 hours a day, and I have a great memory now, and when I read stuff, it stays in my mind. Also I've heard that excersing your brain means you'll live a lot long.
