My flight was delayed

I have just come home from my wonderful trip to Cape Town. Going out there my flight had a delay of more than five hours. Due to fog it had been diverted to Manchester and then it flew to London where it should really have gone to. Then it had to be cleaned and the 19.35 departure time turned in to almost one the next morning. The airline gave me a £5 meal voucher. My toddler son was really tired and all shops closed at 22.00. I had to email the guest house to let them know not to pick us up at the airport the the usual arrival time. Have you ever had a delayed flight? If so what was that like?

Hi maxine, I am lucky in that I have never experienced a delayed flight and I have also been lucky enough that each time I have flown I have landed ahead of time rather than behind. The worse flight I ever had though was when I was on one plane and my daughter was on another 15 minutes behind as we couldn't get on the same flight, it was a very turbelent flight and I was woried for her as it was her first one but as she didn't know any different she was fine and by the time we both got through checkout the other end it was almost simultaneous arrival. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie. It must have been stressful to have you on one flight and your daughter on another. It was lucky that your arrival times were so similar. My flight to Tunisia was very bumpy and coffee was spilled on me. Coming back from South Africa there was quite a bit on turbulence. Maxine

Yes, I spend my time reading a book. Time flies so swiftly when I read a book. That's why I always bring one with me whenever I travel. This is the time that i could catch up with my reading. Cheers and happy mylotting.

Hi Jenaisle. Yes, taking a book to read is an excellent idea. I will try that next time because waiting was tiring. Cleaners came along as soon as the shops closed. Few people were at the airport and my flight was more than half empty. Have a happy time on My Lot. Thanks.

I experience that a few years ago... when i was to go to Kuala Lumpur... the flight was like 4 hours late... so the airport employees served some burger and drinks... which was okay... but then we arrived to our destination very late... good thing the taxi driver was able to drive us to our hotel safe and sound... but i had to wake up the person incharge... so that he could let us in...

Wow that was a bit of a shame! I am glad they still got you there in the end but, maybe more than a £5 voucher would have been useful!! x

Once leaving Rome, Italy, we were told that our flight would be delayed 5 hours because of a air traffic controllers slow down in England. We asked if we could get off the plane to do more sightseeing, but were not allowed because the plane would lose its place in line. It gets very boring just sitting on a plane.

I haven't experienced a delayed flight before, but when I flew to Florida in bad weather my plane was the last one to leave on time before all the others got delayed. And if I had gotten on a later flight all my planes would've been messed up. I don't think I could handle a delayed flight anyway, I'm very impatient xD

Well I was stuck inside the airplane for a couple of hours (maybe three) in Minnesota. I don't remember why but it must have been the weather. Although it was summer. Luckily we had our Ipods and books to read because the runway had absolutely nothing of interest to see. When we finally moved, there had to be like ten planes in front of us and a few behind. Pretty scary!

Hi maxi - Delays in flights or whatever the reason can be really tiring. I think th worst one for me was on a flght from Atlanta Ga to Manchester UK. We had just taken off from Atlanta and were heading up the coast when they announced we were landing in Philadelphia due to problems with the navigation equipment. They waited to serve us ou meal until after we landed in Philadelphia and it was well and truly overdone when we got it. We sat on the plane in Phildlphia for over 4 hours and finally took off again. Needless to say we were well over 4 hours late arriving in Manchester. I landed in Manchester with a blindig headache. Thank goodness our friend who was picing us up had waitied for us. On te drive to Sheffield my head throbbed and I had a lousy case of jet-lag. I was thankful we arrived safely though.

Hello maximax. I have only been in a plane for thrice and I am very happy that my flights have never been delayed. Last year, when we were having sleet, I was lucky not to be delayed while other passengers to other lines were delayed due to the bad weather. Take care, friend.

Hi maximax8! I am glad that you and your son have a wonderful trip despite the delay. I did experienced a 6 hour delay in my flight a few years ago when I am on my way home from London. The connecting flight in Doha was the one that had encounter a problem. It seems that the passengers from the connecting flight from another airline was the one delayed and the on in Doha is waiting for them..well, that is the information we were given. But the airlines took care of us and gave us some snacks while waiting to get on board. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith take care

I hate being delayed at an airport as they are cold and boring, there is nothing ever to do and you always find that you are delayed of an evening or through the night, the food in airports is horrible so you tend not to use the vouchers they give you lol

I am sorry to hear that and i can totally understand your feeling because I have a similar experience during the trip from Haikou to Sanya in China. These two cities are in the same province and the distance between is short . My fight was due to take off at 20:00, but it was delayed until 1:00 in the midnight, which also is a five-hour delay. I had to eat my instant noodles on the spot , people around me were complaining a lot, glancing at their watch at times. To make things worse, I had to get up quite early at six'o clock with other peope in the travel group the next moring.

Many years ago, in1966 actually, and strangly enough it was due to the foggy conditions Heathrow airport, waiting to fly to Canada. From memory the delay was about five hours also, and there was no email then. How did you enjoy your trip? I know how much you were lookinh forward to it.

Oh many delayed flights. The most recent one was a flight from Sacramento to Burbank for a business lunch. I was supposed to arrive around 9 am, pick up car, drive to office, be there around 10. Lunch was at 12, so no problem. Well it snowed in Las Vegas. What does this have to do with a Sacramento to Burbank flight, you ask? Well they do a big triangle, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Burbank. And unlike Chicago, Las Vegas really doesn't know how to deal with snow. So my flight was delayed over an hour. Then when I got to the rental car place, they didn't have any cars. I ended up waiting almost an hour for the car and just barely made lunch. But perhaps the most exciting one was back in 1985, Chicago to Los Angeles via Denver. Some moron called in a bomb threat while I was waiting to board in Chicago. So they made us all go back through security and sent the plane down to the other end of the airport. The unloaded and x-rayed all the luggage and searched the plane. Several hours and screaming passengers later (what did they think, that this was the airline's fault?) we boarded. Of course, by the time we reached Denver we had missed our connection. We had to wait until something like 3 in the morning for them to get us another plane. I don't suppose they ever caught the moron who made the call.

Hi maximax8, luckily I have never had a delay so bad. I think the worst delay I have experienced was an extra 2 hours up in the air due to poor visibility which meant the pilot did not deem it safe for him to land the plane. 5 hours must have been pure torture. I am sure it was horrible for your little boy as he would understood little about why it was happening.
