Do you feel awkward being alone in public?

We're social individuals, and we're used to being with a friend wherever we go. Sometimes, though, we see those select few who enjoy going out to the mall or eating by themselves. Society thinks that being alone marks you as a loser, but what do YOU think? When you're alone in a public place, do you have fun at it, or are you the majority to either: a, feel uncomfortable being alone; or b, don't go out at all when you're alone?
I've never had a problem being by myself. It's a matter of preference for me sometimes. I like to have time by myself to think or to just really take my time. Being with people usually makes me want to hurry up. Sometimes, though, being with people slow me down.

More often than not, I actually prefer being alone in public. I can finish running my errands so much quicker! And, if I'm not running errands, I can do what I want (like browse the bookstore, see a movie, or whatever) without listening to complaining or being dragged somewhere I really don't feel like being.

You're so right! I totally feel the same way, most especially when I'm with my classmates. We just don't have the same interests, so I don't like to drag them into places they never really like.

i dont really mind going to a place by myself, but eating or watching a movie alone- those two things i can't bring myself to do just yet. i feel somewhat weird somehow. well i think it's alright to go out alone, sometimes we need our own space too.

i dont feel awkward being in public alone. i dont have many friends so i'm pretty much used to being by myself. i dont mind company but i have no problem being alone in public. i actually prefer being alone sometimes because sometimes when i have company it actually slows me down and keeps me from doin wat i went to do in the time that i allotted for it but that totaly depends on who the person is that i went out with.

For me it is fine to go alone to shoping or walking through town but when it comes to eat at a restauraunt or drink a soda at a pub i can't go alone
feels strange sitting at the table ,eating alone
maybe if i were a bussines person an had to stay in fron of my laptop in the restaurant eating it would have not been a problem
but eating alone ??? not my type

i just dont like goin out alone.its fine if my out on a walk or to a nearby market to get sm stuff,bt i cnt jus hang out all by myself.it kinda feels wierd.if m waiting fr sm1 smwhere i wud be glued to my cellphone or ipod playing games or texting or wtever..
