How will preventing STDs stimulate the economy?

I was just watching the news and I saw that this is part of the stimulus plan for the economy. I believe they said 400 million for the prevention of SIDS. This is just ridiculous. I personally don't think this has anything to do with the economy. What do you think?

lol I found this funny! It won't stimulate the economy but it may stimulate something else. There point in this is the prevention will keep people pout if the emergency room. I don't know anybody that would go to the emergency room with a case of the clap!

I don't think this is going to help out the people who are out of work and struggling that's for sure. Like someone else said maybe stimulating something else lol.

If public monies are spent treating STDs, and they are, then I could see how preventing STDs could cause less drain on the economy. In turn, that money could be spent on something else.

I dont see what that particular provision needs to be part of the stimulus package. this is not something that I think neeeds to be part of the package. I think they should stick to business and industry revitalization and public works projects. This is something tha should be part of their economic stimulus package.

Yeah it seems like that is about as unstimulating as you can get, even just thinking about it. I think it is just another pork item they are trying to add to this super big bill which is trying to trick us into thinking we need it. Sure something should be done but there is so much wasted spending added to that bill that will never help that it is a joke. I guess if one was to really argue the fact it would be because we won't end up spending money on health care for people who contract the diseases if we try and prevent them now. perhaps this is a good preventative cost saving measure but in no way does it do anything to stimulate the economy. If we prevent some of these and health care costs go down do you really think you will see any more money because of it?
