I find that often TV Channels complicate things instead of solving problems by sensationalizing situations. To increase the TRP ratings they go to any extent to rake up issues which are non issues. They will go to any extent to win over viewership. Should TV channels follow some set norms or should they be permitted total freedom of expression?

i think they should have total freedom of expression.. i think its crazy when they freaked over the janet jackson boob thing etc..
tv has to make things interesting which usually means exaggerating but as long as its not the news who cares? its not misleading people at least.. if it is its misleading the ones that believe everything they see and well those people are lost causes already lol

TV shows, as well as the stations that carry them, like any other business, are there to make money. More viewers means more money so they will do whatever it takes - pushing the envelope and sometimes crossing the line between what is appropriate and inappropriate for television - to increase their profits. When the issue is raised about what rules and regulations should be placed on TV stations for the purpose of controlling content, there is always the danger of the violation of constitutional rights. I'm not saying we shouldn't require the stations and show producers to honor certain guidelines but there comes a point when regulations should reach their limit and viewer discretion should take over.
