how do you clean your nipples?

i have inverted nipples and they have lots of grooves and i find them difficult to clean. before my breast operation i regularly use an ear spoon (the one you use to remove earwax) to clean my nipples and most of the time it is painful. but last november i had a benign tumor (triggered by contraceptive pills) removed from my right breast after experiencing bloody nipple discharge for months. now, i am so scared to even touch my nipples but sometimes i get tempted to clean them. i now use cotton buds wet with baby oil but the process is still not painless.. :-( what do you think is the safest way and should i say painless way to clean our nipples?
