Not really. But what our new President has done here is absolutely fantastic. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090201/ap_on_go_pr_wh/war_on_terror;_ylt=Am7bgb7LgHjdNoBFCRLIMjkazJV4 I recently read this article and I believe our newly elected President has made a big step towards better relations between us and the East. The highly publicized "War On Terror" has taken on greater connotations than expected, or at least the phrase has. President Obama is making an attempt to move away from the militant approach taken by our former President(s) and really make strides towards more peaceful solutions in the Middle East. EXACTLY what should have been done in the past. Check this article out and let it be known what you think about this. Is it the right move? Are you impressed yet? How do you think this will effect the nation's view of the conflicts in the Middle East?

I guess he is indeed making steps to make this world a better place to live in. That is what the terrorist wants to happen by terrorizing the people they want others to follow which the Bush admin has taken in the bait. But for now we will see how they will react to Obama's method of Peace. Well for sure they will find some excuse to continue their fight but of course there are others who may find it reasonable I just wish that there are more people who will be convinced to do it.

As long as there is money to be made from war, someone will want to profit. That is a sad truth about all of this to begin with. I hope this will prove to be a step in a new direction for our governments traditional policies.

True! War is a very profitable business for the government as well as to economy. Obama could easily used that to liven up the sagging economy you have but I hope he does not use that as an option.

His message to the Muslim world doesn't mean they will accept it, USA is always regard as Satan by their hateful ayatollah and Islamic teaching. Liberty, justice and equality is not acceptable value in Islamic society. For better relationship to work, it needs sincerity and respect from both sides.

I don't believe Islamic societies do not value liberty, justice and equality. You are dealing with other cultures. Just because we don't agree with them doesn't make us right. We need to respect others cultures if we are going to reach out to them at all. I do agree both sides need to come to a mutual respect of one another or things will never work out you are right.

There is no right and wrong. It is just differences of cultures. It is not for us to judge others cultures as what is the norm for them might not be for us.

USA has never disrespect middle east culture as long as i can remember,i don't see any thing wrong if USA embrace liberty, equal right for women, freedom of religion etc as something wrong in comparison to some of the middle eastern beliefs and culture. We can be right but will always be judged as wrong in some cultures and religion teaching.

The only way it will work is if Obama approaches the Arab leaders on equal terms. If they read his actions as trying to reach up to them, then they will treat him as an inferior. Prs. Bush Sr. had their respect until he proved that he was more interested in appeasing than standing up. In other words, when he agreed to a ceasefire, he lost the respect of the Arab leaders. But the LAST thing he needs to do is what too many former presidents did... the "lay back and take it" approach only invites more attacks. If the approach Prs. Obama is taking is going to work, he has to go in telling them what he wants, while being willing to listen to what they want. If he can't stand up to them, he will be seen as a coward.

He has to show some backbone but he can't be the bully we have tried to be in the past either. We already have the upper hand here as our military is way more advanced and we have more advanced weaponry than these Arab nations. And they know this as well. It is more of our governments job to extend the olive branch and in essence "be the bigger man" about this. We could've avoided the whole fiasco to begin with. And I am still not convinced we were "attacked" in the first place.

Seriously, you've never read 1984? You did go to Junior and High School, didn't you? Thought it was required reading in school. Oh well, that's probably why you don't know what propaganda is. Obama is very, very, good at propaganda...

Excuse me, but I do know what propaganda is, I have just never read this book. All the presidents and world leaders are good at propaganda, how else would they have gotten elected? Apparently you are confusing me with someone else my friend. Anyway this book was not a required read for me in JHS or HS. I think I have heard of it but have never read it. I am sure I have read many books that you have not as well!

I certainly hope so. Even if he doesn't I think he will revolutionize the way we do politics. He is already shaking things up on Capitol Hill.

I think he's on the right track. That's why he won an overwhelming victory! We are not the enemy of the Muslims their enemy is within and a lot of them realize this! We've become a country of red and blue states, and this is very sad. I think the right is still going to play gotcha politics, We really need to reach out to each other and bond for the country s sake! The military machine is still pissed about Vietnam and hopefully a younger generation will give us the hope and change we so desperately need. These times are uncharted waters and a wrong move at this time could have devastating consequences! Lets all hope we make the right moves! tdemex

I agree 100%. We need to reach out to each other for the planets sake as well. There should have always been a push towards more peaceful relations on the part of all nations involved. I think we are making great strides right now towards this goal.
