Is it right for people to define who they are on the basis of what they do? Is one's indetity really in one's profession? I disagree with this conecpt of identity! How about you?

I think there is an element of my identity being defined by what I do. I think an identity of a person is composed of so many factors. It is composed of where the person is born, whose child she is, what her educational background is, what language she speaks, what skin colour she has, whether she is mentally alright or not, what's the kind of friends' circle, what religion she follows etc etc. Of all the elements there is a basic identity that we all share, and that is we are human being. Apart from giving importance to that common element i.e. human being, if we give too much importance to any element we can have violence in that society. For example, if people give too much importance to skin colour then that can create rift in a society between people of different skin colour. However, that does not mean we all are having same skin colour. What we need to do, I think, is to acknowledge that we are different in various ways. But we also need to affirm that this diversity is what makes the world beautiful. And this can come about if we accept one another in spite of differences. Accepting the other person will be expressed in being willing to eat or play or marry with those different from me or in one way or the other being willing to relate with other people. So I believe work also defines me in some way. But it should not be given importance to such extent that it creates rift or non-acceptance of any person because of the work she or he is doing. But I think it is important to acknowledge that it is very much part of his or her life. I think this idea is being realistic and this is more helpful to building a more peaceful world. Good day!

We can all define ourselves by a number of criteria and i suppose we choose which one is most important to us at the time. Your job is what you do for work, not WHO you are.
