Last night I cannot sleep well because of toothache. I cry, i shout and I sometimes tore my husband's shirt because of very pain. Nobody can help me, and I am more upset when I heard a very loud snore of my husband while I am suffering with pain. Only he said, "just cry it can help to relieve pain...." I've notice that every time my toothache attacked i feel my whole body is not functioning, my head is very pain. do you have any suggestion aside from dentist? Thanks

SALT! I use to have awful toothaches, they were so bad I had to go to the hospital and get a shot for the pain and some pills till I could see a dentist. I don't ever let anyone see me cry but this one time my toothache was so bad I was crying and moaning on a city bus, everyone was looking at me. An old man came up to me and handed me a packet of SALT and said: Take a pinch of it and put it on my bad tooth and the pain will quickly go away. I didn't want to do it because I never heard of it before and thought he might be one of those nuts we see on city buses, but he kept at me to do it so I did. I took a big pinch of salt and put it on my tooth but nothing happened, the pain was still there, then all of a sudden the pain got WORSE and I feared I did something wrong using the salt and was about to scream at the old man when the pain just stopped! Just like that, it stopped! I pressed my tongue hard on my tooth expecting to feel the flare of pain but felt nothing! It was all gone! That was 10 years ago and I have used salt for toothaches ever since. It does work! I have found it works best to just make a strong solution of WARM salt water and hold it in your mouth over the tooth for a minute, then spit it out and rinse your mouth out with warm water. Never use COLD water for a toothache, that'll only make the pain worse!

try rinsing your mouth out with salt water that will help a little bit and also you can swish some vodka around your mouth to numb the pain before you sleep, it'll be easier on you and your husband to sleep at night. thats what i do if i can't get to the dentist right away hope you feel better!

you can try taking mefenamic acid or any pain reliever.. Ponstan is the pain reliever i always use whenever toothache attacks.. of course, the best solution to relieve the pain is by going to the dentist..

yes right.. going to the dentist is the best solution but if i can do something to alleviate the pain without seeing the dentist this time, I will do it.

I have heard that if you disolve an asprin in it then it will relieve the pain. But it has to be an ASA asprin. Not tylenol or acetaminophen. I have also heard that cloves would work for it too but have not tried that one. I hope that you find what you are looking for in pain relief.

check at the pharmacy for it. They do not sell it on the counter here but if you ask they will give it to you without a prescription. Clove oil works better than orajel.

Tooth ache are very severe and happen mostly at night when there is no dentist available. The way u have described your pain it looks like you had acute pain because of dental cavity and your pulp was exposed. Well if you have clove oil in home, if not then but a small bottle it is very cheap costs about 15 to 20 cents in India. put a very small piece of cotton in it and then squeeze the cotton hard so all oil is squeezed and then keep that cotton in that cavity. it might help you and Take brufen 400 mg if you dont have any respiratory problems. It should help you in night then in morning you can go to dentist.

Clove oil is widely available here with every chemist here so it shd be there too and i forgot u got to squeeze that small cotton with another dry cotton so the small piece of cotton which u immersed in clove oil is totally dry otherwise clove oil if leaks out of tooth and to gums and ur oral mucosa then it might cause a little burning.

for first aide, gargle brandy and put a small portion of cotton soaked in brandy. oh yes, you can drink the brandy, it would also help to make fall asleep. drink mefenamic acid to relieve you of the pain then first thing to do in the morning is to visit your dentist.

Oh yes I've heard that brandy from one of the respondents here. Thanks for sharing.

Well, the home remedy for toothache is put salt right on the affected area. Some suggested to put vicks on the outside area right on the spot where the tooth is located and massage the area. I know how it feels. You will have head ache also when tooth ache attack. Some tooth drops would help. too.

Oh really? I have just read it here that salt is good. I will try that next time. Thanks..

try taking pain relievers.it will help lessen or even eliminate the pain.then try toothache drops. This "melts" the tooth.Just be carefull on applying it since its orally used.but the best way to eliminate that aching tooth is by visiting the dentist.pain relievers are just temporary.you sometimes even get immune to the pain killer, you will be needing to take a larger dose for it to take effect.

you are exactly right!!! medicines are dangerous to use because there are some effects of it besides being immune to that. Thanks for the reminder.

If you have cloves at home just put one under teeth which is giving you trouble or if you have clove oil then put some drops on the teeth ,it will vanish your pain . Aspirin is the other alternative.Just put the tablet under the aching teeth,by the time the tablet gets dissolved,it will definitely relieve you from pain.

Hello i have three suggestion or first aid of toothache. 1.If you have seed of red pepper(sili seeds) you put that in the hole of your tooth (if there is a hole). 2.If you know "panwayan" it's a filipino term(i don't know if you're familiar of that) but it's really good, you will squeeze then the liquid will come and you pour into your tooth, it's very bitter but you will be relieve. 3.The third is massage your left elbow if your right tooth will attack or vice versa that is also effective. As filipinos we like to eat sweets and our country is hot that's why most of us suffer from toothache.

unfortunately, if you do not go to a dentist, you will have to suffer from the pain indefinitely (read: for a long, long, looooong time). there are numerous things you can do to help assuage the pain, but they are all just temporizing in nature. the one DEFINITE treatment is to go to your dentist. so despite what i have learned as a physician, i will not encourage you to take this or that analgesic tablet. that's because i want your misery to end: i want you to go to a dentist. it's just a matter of weighing things... which is more painful, a day of visiting the dentist, or a whole year of toothaches? ultimately, it's your choice. good luck. :D

Well, if I can make a way not to go to the dentist for now, I will prefer not to, because I have no money for that. If I can only try the suggestions I've gathered, it might save me from the dentist's fee. Lol.

Clove oil....you put it on with a q-tip. You can get a small bottle at the pharmacy for a few bucks. If you are having a problem, it will deaden the nerve for a time. It does say on the package "not for oral use". Dentists don't really recommend it because it really does deaden the pain and often times when there is no pain, the person will neglect to get help for the problem. You still need to see a dentist and get some antibiotics. If you have an infection going on, it can cause other problems throughout your body.

Oh really? thanks for sharing this info. I will be good to see the dentist though because we will be safe from any possible infection. If we just treat it ourselves we might not know the danger of it.

first to tell you no one out here is a doctor to give their own advices you may risk your own tooth by doing like that first you stop eating hard stuffs like substances which are hard to chew go for soft substances go on a liquid diet thats the best way and till that time go to a dentist he will be able to identify what actually is the problem with your tooth you may have some cavity or maybe a decayed tooth or something else and i recommend dont tear your husbands shirt that will increase your losses you should divert your mind from your pain just ask your husband to understand your pain and to help you out in such a situation as the pain is just unbeareable i think he will surely understand till that time go to a dentist.all the best

Yes, toothache is really hurt. I have also suffered with it. And I am sure cry can not help to relieve the pain. When you are toothache, you can put some gourmet powder on your pain tooth. It can help to relieve the pain, but it is limited, the best way is to ask your doctor for some medicines.

well i've experienced that before.. my mother in-law gave me a toothache drop. i put some drops thru the cotton just as big as the hole of my tooth then i inserted it overnight.. it relieved the pain.. until now, can't feel the pain. or drink paracetamol.. it will remove the pain in just a couple of minutes.

sorry but i really have to recommend that you go to ur dentist.. she can help you with ur aching tooth... if its aching almost everyday, then, that cavity must be big enough.. so everytime u eat, u will be reminded of it because the food particles will stuck to your tooth.. so better go to ur dentist and discuss with her whats the best thing she can do.. if u wanna save it, the do some root canal, or u can choose to pull t out... for now, if ur still afraid to go to ur dentist, then drink mefenamic acid or some ibuprofen would do.. but be sure to go to ur dentist. :)

that's a good advice. But just for first aid treatment if ever the pain would attacked at midnight and going to the dentist is hard for that hour. I think it is good also to have home remedy treatment before going to the dentist.
