Well he signed the papers the day it happened. I think FEMA needs to be disbanded and and reorganized. You would think that after katrina they would have changed the way they do things but looks like the same old S----T!!!!!

Well I haven`t had a kind word fo Fema since Katrina. I think that the Organization itself dosen`t work. It needs to be broken into smaller regional organizations. However i must say that back 96 there was a big ice storm in Mississippi, Fema did a much better job then. I know because at the time I was working as an adjuster for State Farm.

Lol, didn't you hear? He quickly signed for disaster declaration as soon as Beshear asked for it... then FEMA claimed they were ready to go but the roads were too hazardous to travel on...
Then Beshear called in his own FEMA aka KY National Guard... they are doing a great job checking up on people and getting them the help they need. Looks like Obama has as much power over FEMA going to where they are needed as Bush used to have...

Yeah, I heard there's a lot of downed trees, my brother moved there about a year ago. They need mostly chainsaws. Hope they get them.

Looks like KY officials think differently than KY citizens about FEMA's response. They give them decent marks??? Somehow I don't believe it. I hope they don't play nice. The governor is a democrat...

Hello Fortunata,
When are we going to learn? Big, bulky government beurocracies are incapable of a speedy response. The longer we expect a gov't agency like FEMA to handle these kinds of emergencies, the longer we will be disappointed.
The declaration of a federal emergency is designed to get after-the-fact support into an emergency zone. Triage is best handled by organizations with local roots like the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Services, etc... As well as trained local, state and regional search & rescue teams.
Additionally, Neighborhood Watch has a great impact on such situations, as neighbors are ready, willing, and able to participate in active support of their neighbors and communities.

FEMA is not there?! My gosh, there are people with no heat, old folks and small children who might freeze! I consider a disaster like that just as much of a danger as a hurricane or tornado. It's disgraceful that they are not there! I did read that the National Guard was helping with guarding neighborhoods and fixing stuff but there should be some shelters set up, some kerosene heaters and stuff loaned out.
It looks like the gov't is treating Kentucky's disaster like a leak in the basement or something.
I get more scared and suspicious of this gov't every day.
