Is your skin very dry during the winter time?

I'm finding my skin has been extra dry this winter especially on my heels. They are slightly cracked and I'm not sure how I should treat them. My hands are constantly dry too, probably because I'm always washing them often. I use Vaseline Intensive Care aloe fresh hydrating body lotion cream and that seems to help a lot. Actually because my skin is sensitive, it's the only one that has been working for me for several years. What do you do to keep your skin nice and soft? What products do you recommend for sensitive skin? What treatment do you recommend for slightly cracked heels? I'm actually going to get a manicure and pedicure as a birthday pressie from my hubby and son on Wednesday, so I know my hands and feet will be feeling a lot better after that.

Well, I am Diabetic, so I have a lot of problems with Dryer skin... the Winter months especially. I have to keep it from becoming Celulitis etc. as well because that can be dangerous as well. I have used many different things over time and some things work better than others, but not always for me. But I do the Best I can do and then hope for the Best.

I did not realize that diabetics had a problem with dry skin. My step-mother and an aunt are diabetics (only as they've gotten older and I don't think either of them is on medication) and I never even knew this about them. Have you every tried using products with teatree oil in them? Teatree oil is great because it absorbs into the skin and helps heal, not just moisturize. What I use is only available on-line, and although I don't have big problems with dry skin, I do use it a lot during the winter. I'll make you the same offer as I've made others - if you'd like, I can send you a sample to see if it's something that works for you. PM me if you want, or you can visit my profile to get to my Health Cafe for more information. Good Luck to you!

My husband is also Diabetic and I've noticed his legs are very dry - like they have a white powder all over them. I have to keep reminding him to moisterize all the time but he just can't be bothered and I know it's important for Diabetics to take care of his feet. Thanks for your reply KrauseHome.

My skin does get very dry during the winter time. Migrating from a warmer climate to the cold winters of Canada took some adjusting. After I shave, I use men's Nivea cream to moisturize my skin. After I shower, I also put vaseline on my body to prevent drying. I use chap-stick throughout the day as well to protect my lips.

And how was the manicure and pedicure? I can not have people doing things to my feet.LOL! But, everyone I hear says it is great. The skin is drier in the winter. When it gets too dry I shower with bath oil. But, you have to be careful afterwords. If you don't clean the tub afterwords, you might slip the next time you want to take a bath, or shower. I have used Nivea for a long time, 11 years. Never had much trouble with it. And it was cheap for me because I worked in that factory. LOL! The creams and the lotions are very good. Know I don't have much of it anymore, so I am going back to Johnson and Johnson. That is also a good product for sensitive skin. And if I am not mistaken , it is not so expensive. Take care.

I had to change my appointment for my manicure and pedicure, which is now tommorrow. I did get my hair done and it felt very nice to have someone shampoo and conditioner it and then have it cut and styled. Pity the style doesn't last after you sleep on it LOL but I still like the cut. I was trying to ask her as many questions on the blow drying and making it curly in parts so I can try to do it myself. It never works out well when I do it though LOL My best friend uses Nivea too and swears by it. Thanks margajoe.

Your welcome. I know how it is made, I used to produce Nivea for 11 years. Best job I ever had. The styling thing, that is normal. I cannot get my hair right either, hahaha! Take care.

I don't normally have dry skin, but since moving from Michigan to Texas I have had some problems with it. My elbows and one ankle (just one) get all dry and itchy and sometimes they even hurt. I found a lotion by Suave that I love (I think it is Suave intensive healing or something). It isn't greasy feeling and I love it. As for the dried heels...it sounds gross (and feels a bit gross too). The best treatment ever is bag balm. It is used to protect the milk sack (bag) of cows. You can get it at most farm supply stores and in some pharmacies. It is really thick and usually yellow, but works wonders. Apply it and wear socks for a night and you should take care of it real quick.

A little tip if you want is vaseline, the petroleum jelly. It won't do anything to your sensitive skin. For your heels: Have a bath or at least soak your feet in warm water until the water cools down. Scrub them with a pumice stone or foot scrub. Pat them dry. Put a generous amount of vaseline. Rub it in. Then place each foot in a plastic lunch bag. Over that put on a pair of cotton socks. Now the best time to do this is before you sleep so you can get plenty of time for your heels to absorb the moisture but 1 hour would be good too. Then remove the socks and plastic and rub the extra vaseline in. You should have baby soft feet. For your hands: The same exact treatment as your feet except you don't have to soak them and DO NOT you a pumice stone on your hands. A facial scrub would be great. It's gentle enough but effective. And instead of socks wear gloves, unless you don't have gloves, hey!! sock will do as well:) Hope this helped If you need anymore beauty advice just let me know. I'm a qualified estheticain ;)

I don't have that big of a problem with dry skin, but I do know a product that has worked wonders for my friends and family. It's only available on-line, but I can send you a sample if you'd like. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll notice a difference within one day. This stuff has teatree oil in it which soaks right into the skin and starts to heal it, not just moisturize it. If you check out my profile, the Health Cafe has a bit more info for you. PM me if you'd like a sample. You do want to be careful with lotions though, because they have a tendancy to put alchohol in them, which actually dries out your skin - check the ingredients on the label, if that's one of the first things then that's about all you're getting.

My skin is pretty dry in the winter time. I've found that drinking a lot of water, a few glasses of it a day and making sure to keep a nice bottle of lotion on hand (as in, whatever lotion works for you) around to keep putting it on all day is the best way to combat dry skin. Also, keeping areas more prone to dry skin covered when out in the wind and cold helps too. I know whenever I'm not wearing gloves or something, my hands get really dry rather quickly.

I've noticed that too when I'm around and about without gloves on. Drinking a lot of water would help too and I know I don't drink enough daily. Thanks for the tips highflyingxangel.

I have oily skin. Even in the winter, my forehead and nose feels oily. I have to use non allergic products as well, and usually the time that I need help is on the bottom half of my legs. I have a little trouble with circulation = I fell and broke my ankles and it did not heal right - and I need lotion then. I heard that Gold Bond is quite good.

My skin also gets dryer during the winter time. To avoid peeling my skin I protect it with nutritive creams and lotions. I often use natural products to take care of my skin. Coffee grounds are very good to scrub hands, the skin gets very soft after this procedure. Very nutritive mask is mixed smashed banana with honey and oil, keep it on the face for 20 minutes and then clean it off. For peeling knees skin I could suggest a scrub for sensitive skin and very nutritive body cream.

Victoria Secret has a really good warming foot scrub for your feet. I went in there the other day and they had a 75% off sale on those types of products. I ended up getting a tube of the scrub for about a $1.50. They also have a hand and nail lotion to. I hope you find the right product for you I have the same problem during the winter.

my skin is not that much dry in general. But it dries on the heels. I have tried applying many things. Mainly vaseline. Do one thing. wash well with warm water and clean the heels. then add coconut oil. it will help.

I have this same problem in winter as well. My doctor actually told me something I didn't know. WAY back in the day, Aveeno lotion was actually prescription. Yes, my doctor is very old, so I guess that is how he knows it. Now just any Aveeno doesn't work for me. They have a relatively new kind out called Aveena Intense Relief Overnight Cream. It is awesome. It's great for hands, feet, whatever. And it isn't just for overnight, like the name might suggest. It is a really great product. I used to use Vaseline Intensive Care as well, but this is better. At least for me. Hope you get a good mani pedi!

I have used Aveeno once, and it seemed to work with my dry skin too. Because I bought a large bottle of vaseline intensive care, which I think will take a year to use LOL I haven't bought anymore since. I'll make a note of the one you mentioned for next time. Thanks AmbiePam.

yes, it is much worse in the dry season of winter - I have not found a solution. It seems I have more trouble since getting older and even more since having my gallbladder removed. enjoy your pampering by way of manicure and pedicure... I have never had the treatments before.

Run a vaporizor in your house. And then what I do with my hands is I put vaseline on them once a week or as needed and sleep with socks on my hands and they heal right up. My hands not only get dry but they webbing between my pointer & thumb & my knuckles on my hand get dry and red & pretty irritated. Feet you can do the same thing but I'd put plastic bags on my feet sometimes lotion instead of vaselene and put the bag on my foot and then a sock over it for a few hours and that helps alot too. Also not using really hot water when showering or dishes helps too.

My skin is oily but turns out dry during winters.Well if i have time then i massage my body with extra virgin olive oil.It is very good for the skin and helps in regaining glow and softness to the skin. I take shower after 30 mins of massage with mild hot water. Then i apply Avon's body creme which keeps my skin soft and emits a nice fragrance.

its not just over the winter time, its all year round my skin is dry. lately, i've just been applying lotion every day and after i shower to help soften my skin. it's been working, however my elbow seems to get dry fast. i usually just bring a small bottle of lotion (i use johnson's softlotion moisturizer) with me and apply when needed. good luck!
