I Think Our Cat Has Another Home

One of our cats will stay gone for days at a time but always comes back. Its a nice friendly cat and is not the type that would scratch you easily. I can assume why somebody else would think its their pet but is actually ours because it was born at my house. Its either this or he finds other places to bum food. We have yet to get it fixed but really have no need to because all our other cats are fixed. I would assume more than anything its just because hes not fixed yet.

Hey elmiko! If you want this cat to stay at home the you would have to stop letting him go out entirely! I think that if you did fix him and make him stay in he would calm down and not want to keep going wherever he is going! He might have someone else feeding him. If you are concerned about him you really should think about fixing him and keeping him inside. There are too many things that could happen to him by his roaming around.

Please get him fixed, every time he's gone six to eight more kittens are born and this adds to more unwanted animals to lead tragic lives. We need to keep on top of these things so we can get a handle on the cat population. I suffer the results of overpopulation and have to end up shooting cats which i hate. That's why I am so adamant about neutering your animals. Blessings

In California we do not have to license a cat because it is considered not to have an owner since they go from house to house. Cats tend to adopt people if the food is better or if they just want to. Hopefully he has a girlfriend.

I'm sure it's partly that he's not fixed and partly that somebody else is feeding him. But you really should get him fixed even though there's no chance of your other cats getting pregnant. He could be out getting some other cat pregnant and there are already enough unwanted kittens in the world!

I have a cat which has lived indoors at all times for the past 12 years. I came across another cat a while back. She showed up on our doorstep and we endeavoured to find her owners; all the while she lived in our backyard; the two cats would stare at each other through the window. We did not locate her former family and one day, after she had lived with us for about a year, she disappeared. I realized then how attached to her I had become and I was very upset that she was gone. Three days went by and she eventually returned. The minute she reappeared she got whisked inside, cuddled and fed never to go outside again. I was so relieved she came back! We now have two healthy, happy indoor cats that do not even go out when the door is left open! One can walk on a lead and I often take him out, the other (the little stray) has a basket she sits in when we go out. Call me eccentric but that is where I want my cats to be, where I can see them! Your cat probably has two homes; he's more than likely very happy; he has double the love! I would keep him inside though, but that's just me (LOL)

Hi Elmiko, Just because you other cats are fixed this cat may be wandering and getting many others pregnant if a boy or could come home pregnant if a girl so maybe it would be better to have it fixed to stop the ever growing population of cats everywhere and also to stop its wanderings. I had a female cat that eventually went to live with a little old lady down the road, I didn't mind as I had three others anyway but she will still pop back to say hi sometimes. Huggles. Ellie :D

First, getting him fixed will reduce the number of feral/abandoned cats. Second, try putting a collar on him with your phone number. That way, you might get a call from whoever your cat is mooching from. My cat (a big black tom, who's been fixed) has been in just about every house in the neighborhood. Several people (mostly older couples) feed him. This guy has no shame, he'll bum food or attention from anyone.

LOL.....When I saw your post it reminded me of an old Tom cat I had years ago named Tommy. I brought him home as a tiny kitten and always kept him indoors. Well, one spring it was so nice out that I started taking both of my cats outside with me to enjoy the warm sidewalk and grassy yard. They really enjoyed it and then I started letting them stay out by themselves for a bit and they would always come in when I called them. One day I noticed Tommy did not come in and I feared the worst. He was no where to be found. A couple of days later, here he comes and wanted back in. Well this goes on for a week or two and then he is gone for good. I worried about him and looked for him and never saw him again. About a month later, here he comes with a new rhinestone collar on! My now ex was working and ran into one of our neighbors across the street and over and they got to talking and he mentioned that our cat was missing. The neighbor asked if it was a big white Tom cat, yes, that was him. He moved across to the man and his wifes house and was now sporting a new collar and even had a large metal wire dog enclosure to sleep in. They assumed he was a stray and set him up somewhere to stay outside and not get hurt when he was not indoors enjoying their company. We told them to keep him since he was far happier there. I guess he wanted to be an only child and when he was coming back over here it was actually to say goodbye. If your cat is not fixed he will get into fights with the other strays and that can be bad. Besides great injury they can pick up all kinds of feline disease. You may want to try and keep him indoors. Good luck.

oh, no, you have a bigamous cat, lol Some years ago, I lived in a house with garden and small fences. Some nights, when I was just watching the stars (with my telescope), I had a company: a beautiful, purrfect gray cat. I never knew if it was a he or a she. I really never care about it. I used to call it Vega, (like the star). Vega slept upon my feet, eat any food I gave it, gave me some love and disappear, just like a ghost, in the night. For years, Vega was my night shift friend. Then, one night, Vega didn't come. Some weeks later I moved to this new home. How I miss Vega... I guess it joined its star.

We had a similar situation at my house where one of our cats had disappeared for a while, although the only difference was that she was fixed. She finally showed up to our house again, but she was acting different. The main difference was that she was begging for people food when we were eating, which she never did before. So we knew she was somewhere where someone was feeding her human food. One of my friends actually saw her at a house a couple blocks away, so he showed me where she was at. She was definitely getting fed people food in the food fish. She ended up not even bothering to come back to our house after a little while after that.

Ah cats, so disloyal when it comes to another household offering food, warmth and cuddles. We used to have a cat just like this. I knew where he would be when he had been gone to long. Then one day the neighbour moved and our cat dissapeared forever! I can only hope that the people really loved the cat and they will look after him:)x

I've had a cat who ran away because my other cat had kittens and he seemed jealous. I tried coaxing him with treats but he still disappeared. He did reappear once, I guess he missed us, but kept his distance. I was not able to get him fixed. I hope your little wanderer keeps his itchy paws in one place, your home. ^-^

If it is a boy cat and he has not been fixed , then he is out courting..haha....Cats especially male cats will go hunting a female..Probably there is one somewhere arond in your neighborhood ( a female) and your cat is just one of several male cats hanging out with her...He will be back, he knows where he lives...Male cats will run off to find a female and come back after she is out of seaon & they will be all skinny...

I had a cat like this once, used to dissapear on and off, always come back so i didn't really concern myself over it. Then we moved house and no matter how long i kept him in or what i did he would just keep going back, i used to knock on my old neighbours houses, and i discovered that he made frequent visits to at least 3 houses, all of whom fed him! Asked them not to but he still always went back, i think he realised what a good thing he was onto and didn't want to lose it-they say a cat chooses his owners, this one was just greedy lol Oh, and he was fixed by the way.

Catting around? Hmmm....all my kitties are fixed. I've had cats do that whether they were fixed or not. I had one cat that always came back after 2 or 3 days at a time. He always smelled like a campfire. I couldn't figure it out. Then one day I drove by a distant neighbor's house and saw a bunch of tents and such out. Sure enough they said they thought lil "Jr" was their cat! I couldn't believe it! Not only did they give him a horrible name but he had his own sleeping bag with the kids! No kidding! That darn cat!

You are absolutely right, get him neutered and he WILL stay home ! But he probably will gain weight also. I've had all my cats spayed or neutered.

I think our cat eats at other cats houses because she always plays the hungry bit and when I do not give more and more she wants to go out stays gone a bit and comes back.I have started to give her tuna because I noticed a weight problem..So I do believe she is two timing me...lol :)..Good luck with your kittie!!
