What price art? Who defines how much a piece of art cost? I mean, people are actually willing to pay $89 million for this piece of art? A kid could have done something similar. What makes this piece so special to command $89 million? Would you pay $89 million to put this up in your home? Read the full article and view the art piece here -- http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=14414526&owner=ahgong

Art is something that u and me cant understand.. Art is hard to define and what seems pretty to u, might not be the case for others.. THough there are some pieces of art that seems simple enough to draw, but the actual outcome of it is totally different.. Because the emotion and sense of satisfcation is not there.. ON top of that, art comes in the form of inspiration.. They do not copy from each other, or draw the same painting twice.. Thus, it makes their piece of art so valuable because it's unique and the only one in the world.. So ple dun appreciate art but only buy them as investment so that they can re-sell for a profit.. PLus, there are so many artist in the world, and how can one really determined if their art is worth so much, is all depending on those rich ple, whom can really appreciate art ^_^

Precisely because art is so subjective, I find it hard to swallow when some one says a piece of art is worth millions while another is not. Like the one I quoted in my example, the art piece look so simple. Yet it has a price tag of $89 million. I can appreciate art if I can understand it. But abstract art is so subjective, who can fully understand it other than the artist who created it? That is why I find some of these valuers who give these humongous prices tags to art pieces that look like art pieces from the show "Art Attack" all hog wash. Call it a case of sour grapes. :p

lol =D Wait till one day, u managed to be an artist or have a artist friend, only one will know why their works is worth so much, and is it really worth so much too.. haha =D IN the case of 89million piece of art, it might be a very old painting, and has changed hands b4, thus boosting it value furthermore.. hehe ^_^ If not, then i guess it should be a very very nice painting for those whom knows how to appreciate it, just like picasso ^_^

ha ha ha ha ha... point noted. Well, with Picasso, at least I can see something in his pieces of abstract art. I may not understand all his pieces, but I can see something in them! This particular one I mentioned in the discussion is just a bunch of shapes on a piece of canvas! Where is the story? What is the motivation? How am I suppose to interpret the shapes? Maybe like you said, only a person who knows how to appreciate such art will know. Too abstract for this old man already!

I won't even pay 8 cents for that, hahahaBut dang, if I knew someone was willing to pay USD60 million for that, I wouldn't mind buying it & selling it to him provided he gave me a hefty deposit 1st? Hahahah

I think I can paint this picture free of charge for you:) You know when people are quite rich, they don't mind how much it is or whether it is worth. Sometimes they just bought something crazy but it can at least impress everybody:) I love China

For that amount? You're so kidding me man. I could easily ask one of my mum's students (4 - 5 yr old kids) to do just as great a job. Their dinosaur drawings are really good. (well some of them). And i give to you for FREE!!!

Yeah, that was exactly what I felt when I saw the article too! Imagine, some adult doing some kiddish doodle on the canvas. And just because he is an artist, that piece of doodle gets value. And a mighty large value too. TO the tune of $89 Million!

wow! even if i have that much money to spare, i would not bid. he he he i mean, an art is an art and would really be priceless at that! but the picture you have shown is not really outstanding to my eyesight. i mean i am an art lover, my boss runs a museum/ art gallery, but i've seen more worthy pieces than the one here. ooppsss, sorry but this is just in my opinion.

And you are totally entitled to it. Yes, I agree with you too. That particular piece mentioned in this discussion is totally meaningless to me too. That is why it really makes me wonder why someone would be willing to pay so much for it. Looks so much like a child playing around with shapes on a piece of paper! I guess I have yet to reach the nirvana stage of appreciating art yet!

I liked it. I'd pay $20 for it but it would have to include the frame

Yeah~~~! I so agree with you. You know what is the ultimate art? A large framed piece where all the 1000 dollar notes are stacked end to end with each other. That is one piece of art I can really admire!

I agree with you... Well, the more acclaimed the artist is, the higher the value of the art. I won't pay that much for that piece since I like surrealism movements. I also paint and I believe each painting says something about the one who made it and the ones who appreciate it. The pic you showed is totally not my personality. If I want to have something like that, I would just cut and paste random shapes and have a tarpaulin or poster printed!

And it really makes me wonder what people see in that piece of art that makes the artist so famous. So the question that should be asked is whether one is paying for the art or for the fame of the artist. And yes, I so agree with you! If I want to have something like that, I would just cut and paste random shapes and have a tarpaulin or poster printed!

Ha Ha Ha........cant believe it .... ha ha ha... why would any one buy such an art .. i mean there are some other art forms which do have inner meaning in it or is usually painted by a very famous painter ,or maybe if it goes in for a good cause ,,,,sure someone can afford that ....but as you said.. even a kid can do a better job than that... and why are these people buying that ..and that too ... during the time of recession... wonder who is that who bought that ,,, sure should ask him..what made him to buy such a piece of ....ART( i don't think so its even a ART )...tomorrow somebody will come up with a blank piece of paper and say thats art ...ha ha ha

You never know my friend. You will never really know. If the blank piece of canvas was appropriately named. And if some famous artist were to sign it. I am sure some silly fellow will pay millions for it too.

People may have different values over different things. For some people, the embedded meaning in a painting may be immeasurable, that explains why they are willing to pay such a large amount of money for a piece of art. But for me, I am sure I won't buy a picture with $89 million even though I have the money. Maybe people buy it for its value and they expect the value will exceed $89 million some time later.

Seriously, the piece of art in question, what meaning can you draw from it? It is a big square in the middle with a few strips at the side surrounding it. I really do not know why this particular piece of art is worth so much when there are other similar piece by other artist that don't worth squat! That is why I am so curious. And yeah, I do agree with you about not spending that kind of money for a piece of painted canvas! Like I said in a response here, I would rather stack the 1000 dollar notes end to end and then frame it up. THAT is one piece of art I can admire!
