I was just wondering if anyone knew if my ex-boyfriend can go and obtain my son's social security number without my permission. This is very important because he has all of a sudden start to try to come back into our lives just because he wants to file my son as being dependent on him just because he wants the tax money. I have refused to give it to him, but recently I have discovered that my son's birth certificate is missing from my home.

Yes, he will be able to get it. With that being said. You should go ahead and file taxes and claim your son anyway. When the IRS realizes that 2 people have claimed the same child they will send out letters to both people stating that the child has been claimed twice. The person who was not legally able to claim the child will get in trouble and have to pay back the money.

If your ex is the father, and his name is on the birth certificate then yes he will be able to obtain it. But if he's not then he cant. You should call the social sercities office, or go down to your local social sercurity off and tell them there might be some type of fraud happening with your son's number and they can help protect it so no one but you and your son can obtain it. Hope this helps you. And good luck, I hope you are able to solve your problem without too much of a hassle.
