Do you make your own spaghetti sauce? What's your favorite recipe?

I used to make my own spaghetti sauce. It was really easy, since most of my homecooked dishes involved tomato paste or canned tomatoes. I haven't made homemade spaghetti sauce in ages, so I don't remember the recipe I used. For now, I'm using the store bought kind, which is really high in sodium. I would really love to find some new homemade spaghetti or pasta sauce recipes, especially ones that are lower in fat and sodium. Do you have a favorite homemade spaghetti sauce recipe you'd like to share?

Hi, beautyqueen. How have you been??? I do make my own sauce but I don't have a recipe per se. I cook down a yellow onion and a clove of garlic in EVOO. Then just add a can of tomato paste and whatever additional cans of tomatoes I have on hand. I like to add both a can of diced tomatoes and whole tomatoes just to give the sauce some texture. Also mushrooms I do the same, I dice some up real small and cut a few just in half or quarters for more texture. The seasonings I add all depends on the cans of tomatoes that I used. I often buy the seasoned tomatoes and sometimes will not add any additional seasonings in that case. I have missed seeing you around here. It will be fun to see all the sauce recipes given here.

That's so sweet of you to say! I missed you all too. Mylot is such a fun place and I miss my friends when I'm away too long. As for sauce recipes, that sounds like a really good one. A lot of my cooking ends up being from the heart, just like yours. I'll try this idea. Sounds really healthy. I'm all about healthy cooking!

I make spaghetti with white sauce [carbonara], and my fairy godmother told me to heat up a can of Nestle Cream, add 1/2 tsp of sugar and 1/4 pepper, a bar of grated cheese and a chicken cube dissolved in a cup of hot water. It's that easy.

I sometimes make my own sauce, but I don't follow a recipe. I normally just add some spices to a can or 2 of tomatoes and let it simmer for awhile to help break down the tomatoes a little bit. I think I normally use garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, and a little salt and pepper.

I'm crazy about basil. It's one of my favorite spices. I could put that stuff on everything.

If you ever have fresh basil, I suggest you try fresh basil and Parmesan cheese in your scrambled eggs. It is really good. You just thinly slice he basil up and toss it in when you are cooking the eggs and at the end sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top.

I usually will make my own sauce too, except for certain meals which I prefer to use Prego with. For my sauce I just use tomato paste with equal amounts of water, a dash of salt, and loads of spices. Sometimes I'll add diced tomatoes, and sometimes some meat of some sort. I'll add raw sausage or meatballs, or cooked ground beef. My sauce never turns out the same twice because I don't actually follow a recipe, I just throw in whatever spices I have and am in the mood for. I'll put some minced garlic, onion flakes, and bunches and bunches of italian seasonings and whatever else is in the cupboard. Usually a couple bay leaves too.

I used up all my onion flakes. But, I'll try those next time I'm making homemade sauce.

P.S. I use Prego too! It has more salt than other brands, but it's thicker. I don't like Ragu cause it's too soupy.

I don't like Ragu either, have never used it. If I don't use Prego or my own, then I use the Walmart brand, that's not bad either.

I do make my own spaghetti sauce. I make a simple sauce that consists of fresh garlic, onions, fresh basil, and crushed tomatoes. I will saute the garlic and oninons in olive oil. I then add the can of crushed tomatoes and basil, I bring it all to a boil and then turn it onto simmer, and simmer between 45 and 60 minutes. It's tasty, easy and economical.

That sounds like a lovely recipe. I will have to try it out.

I haven't made homemade spaghetti sauce in quite a while, but that is due to the fact that the place where I am currently staying isn't really conducive to cooking. I'm just hoping that I still have my flair for cooking by the time I get into another, better space.

I make my own sauce with 2 large cans of Hunts Sauce, 1 lg can of Hunts Puree, a pinch of baking soda, garlic powder, basil, salt and pepper. We all love it. If it gets too thick, I add a little water. It has to be cooked all day with the meatballs and sausage in it to absorbe the flavor from the meats too.

I buy the garden style Prego brand and then I'll add a few more things to it such as green pepper, diced tomatoes, chopped onions and mushrooms. We love lots of veggies in our sauce.... lol I used to make my own then I tried Ragu and hated it!! So I continued to make my own until I got brave and tried Prego and been stuck on it ever since!! lol

I never have enough tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce, but maybe I will this year. I made brushetta last year with my tomatoes as well as had some for salads and sanwhiches but I think that there are some good homemade spaghetti sauces around. I will try it this year if I can make it I will.

I bottle my own tomato sauce in the summer, which is delicious. I just reduce fresh tomatoes down, and down, and down, until they reach a nice thick consistancy. Sometimes I fry minced onions and garlic in olive oil and include it, other times I add handfuls of fresh spinach. It depends how I feel at the time.

I don't know how to make a homemade spaghetti sauce.. i usually use those in tetra packs.. Using the premade sauce is a lot easier than making a homemade spaghetti sauce as there's no need to buy lots of ingredients and spices..

I don't actually make the spaghetti sauce, but rather, improve what comes out of the can. I'll never forget the first time I did it...it was purely by accident. When my hubby and I first got married I wasn't a great cook. I was making spaghetti one night and while I was cooking the beef for the sauce I just started tossing in spices. Garlic, pepper, salt, etc... I had used generic sauce so I wasn't expecting it to be all that great. So I got it done, gave my hubby his plate and we sat down to eat. It was honestly the best spaghetti that either of us had ever eaten. To this day I still make it the same way and I'll never forget the first time my little girl said "Nana, mommy makes spaghetti better than you." I beamed! lol!

I basically make all my own sauces that are tomato based, I don't follow a recipe however so I don't really have one to pass along. I cook like my gramma did, a little of this and a little of that. lol I use tomato sauce and paste, onions, garlic and then I add a touch of white sugar to cut down the acid (husband gets really bad heartburn with almost everything). I add parsley, garlic salt and powder, onion powder and salt ( I go easy on the salt parts as I don't like salt) Oregano, basil and I think that is it. Hmm weird when I'm making it is easier to remember. I think I got it all thou. I'm having a garden this year and hoping to can some totally from scratch.

well, I do cook spaghetti on every special events or even ordinary days in our family. If you like jollibee spaghetti tastes like then here are my things. Spaghetti pasta, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, ground pork and seasonings, a can of evaporated and condensed milk, and lastly, the cheese. Please serve pasta and sauce separately. Enjoy :)

Yes, I make my own spaghetti sauce. I just don't like the taste of the sauce in can from supermarkets. I made my own tomato sauce, carbonara, pesto, marinara, puttanesca, meat sauce, name it.... I suggest you nave a look at some Recipe websites, they are really helpful.
