I have just watched a programme where Terry Pratchett is talking about Alzheimers. This was the first of two programmes - there is another one next week. He explained how it was affecting him, trying to find possible treatments, and finding out how research is progressing. It was very interesting and I admire him greatly. For someone with such an incredible mind, the thought of losing it is terrifying. Although I suppose it is for everybody. It was optimistic in that the possibilty of a cure seems not too far away.

I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett and was dismayed to hear the news about his condition. I have never seen him speak about anything, let alone his condition and would love to. Seeing the way you spell I am assuming you are in the U.K., I am in America and am assuming the show will not be aired in the US. Just in case I can find it somewhere, online or dvd, can you give me the name of the show. Thank you.

It was called Terry Pratchett:Living with Alzheimers. It was shown on BBC2 on Wednesday. If you can find the BBC Homepage you should be able to watch it, I think.

I just watched that too and my father developed Alzheimers last year. He is a lot worse than Terry Pratchett. Watching it showed how Terry still has a sense of humor about his condition. My father finds himself getting very frustrated and angry with himself all the time. I have moved house to be closer to my mother & father to help my mother with my fathers condition. I would love to believe there is a cure around the corner but seeing how much my father has gone downhill over the past year upsets me greatly. And i dont think that there is a cure in our lifetime. There is just too much about the way the brain functions that we do not yet understand.

I am sorry to hear about your father. I think that because people seem to be affected differently, and the progress is slower in some than others, it's going to take a long time to work out what treatments are working. Hasn't the government said today that they're going to put more money into helping? I haven't watched the news properly, but I think that's what was said.

I must confess I have not seen much news today. I made a special effort to watch the Terry Pratchett thing.
