Scrapbooking........cheaper than a therapist!

my scrappin corner - and a window to look out

As some of you know, I'm going through a seperation, after almost 4 years in this relationship. The first few days after it came out in the open, I stayed busy, going through boxes and clothes, sorting to give away or to pack. Well after 2 weeks I had just about everything packed that I could for now. So, I needed something to occupy my time (he is recently retired, and for the moment we are still living in the same house). So I have been doing a lot of scrapbooking.....everyday! But, it keeps my mind busy, and I'm getting some good layouts done. I started a 'Me' book, a 2009 book, both are 8x8. And I got a great deal on some 8x8 scrapbooks at Ollies! 4 albums, each a different color, and 40 sheets of mixed pattern 8x8 cardstock.....all for 11.04!So does anyone else use their scrapbooking as therapy? Or just to keep your sanity?

I think my sister does. Have you decided where you are going to go? Tennessee (closer) or back to Texas (home)?

I had a friend who did something like that. I tried to get her out of the situation sooner than she did. so, when you do come back to Texas, be sure to let us know and if you are in the Austin area, let me

I'll be going down to Virginia(closer), staying with my oldest daughter for a while. I'll have my scrapbook buddy, and she's already set up a scrapbooking room for us in her spare bedroom! lol Not sure how long I'll stay there, before moving on back to Texas(home) lol. Right now I'm just trying to keep my sanity, and get all the personal business I need to get done overwith. We are co-habiting okay for now, just a lil strange to go from girlfriend status to roommate status in the same house. lol

I definitely scrapbook to keep my sanity. Or at least to keep from snapping at the husband and kids. LOL. It puts me in a creative calm place where I can tune out stress. I feel for what you are going through. It must be strange living there until you can move. You scored a great deal on those albums and paper. I started a "me" book a while back, but haven't worked on it for a while. Maybe I should pull it back out and see where I left off.

It does take you to a calm place. It does get strange at times, especially when he gets a new movie for 'us' to watch. Mostly I stay in the bedroom, which has become my lil safe haven, I have my scrappin table there and a big tv, so I'm set, lol. But, things are looking up, my dr called and my appt. has been moved up to tomorrow instead of March 17th. So, hopefully I can start getting things rolling in the right direction. I did get lucky on those albums! I'm almost done with the 'me' book I've been working on. Get started on that book of your's girl! lol

I hope the doctor appointment went well and I am glad that it was moved up - next month was way to far away. Went scrapping at a friend's this weekend, worked on a conference to Vegas - from 2 years ago. Slowly catching up - lol.

Hope things are falling into place for you now!

scrapbook layout - first page in new album
You are right, about remembering the good times. I also, as therapy and closure, started a new album, it will include moving day layouts, a two page layout of 'what i'll miss' (left side)....NOT (right side). I hope you are feeling better. Things are starting to fall into place, it will just take a little time to finalize everything and then get moved.

Isn't that the truth! Well, about 8 years ago it wouldn't have been cheaper, but now.. boy howdy it has all come down to affordable! I was ust in Joanne Crafts today and used the 40% off coupons! Plus their usual 40% off sales - it is great. I checked the sticker section too and got really great deals for 97¢! ANd that Stack "tablet" of paper - all sizes, but I got the 12x12 as I intend to make envelopes out of some... on sale for $9.99 - for 150 sheets!!! 15¢ a sheet and all were pretty amazing designs! It does do great therapy - happy memories, fun times and using your mind to do something other than think about the bad parts of the day.. no stress to SB'ing.. just do what ever you want, how ever you want... don't get much better than that!

You're right doesn't get much better. I'm just waiting for Michaels to get in all their new paper in. They have been getting rid of all the cardstock they have been carrying and getting all new. I'll be there when they do! lol And heading out in a couple of weeks to a weekend scrapbook retreat! 3 days of scrapbooking, all day and as late as ya want, and a view of the beach and ocean while your scrapbooking.

I have not been to Michaels in awhile as it is not as close as Joannes Crafts. New stuff, huh? I might go up there and see what they have on sale!

good for you scrapbooking is fun stuff my cousin says she loves it, but feels she needs a second job to keep up with the her favorite hobby. At times I see it can be costly because the stuff cost so much

It can be costly, but I watch for sales and specials, online and in stores. But, it does help relieve stress, and it's fun. I would much rather save pictures and memories in a scrapbook than just in a photo album.

I just went through a break up and I started doing the same thing. I remembered how much I loved scrapbooking, but stopped when I entered this recent relationship. I have so many pictures I need to develop and get more paper and stuff. Then I want to start gathering some other things to add into it other than just the pictures. I did one of my ex and I (while we dated) and I liked to save things from when we went hiking, like I have pressed leaves on one page that looks great. I never thought to look at Ollies for scrapbooking items I should do that.

I've bought quite a bit from Ollie's. You just have to check back every so often, as they do get new things in from time to time. I also found that they don't necessarily keep it in the same area all the time. Funny, you stopped when you got into that relationship and my past relationship (just been apart a month) is why I started scrapbooking in the first place.

Yes I guess any interest like this that captures your creative side is good for making you forget the negatives things in your life, I have used different types of crafts over the years when i needed something in my life, its good you have your scrapbooking, it is a lovely craft.

layout - battle of the badges, firefighters vs. police
I actually started scrapbooking 3 1/2 years ago, shortly after I moved in with my b/f! lol So, I went through all the scrapbooks I had done and pulled some of the pages out and put him a scrapbook together. I had also made him one of his career. I am glad that I do scrapbooking, since I'm off work due to an injury on the job, I would go crazy without it keeping me busy these days. lol

That is what I feel about sewing. It is so good to do something and it gets your minds off of things that are happening and is so good for you. I love to sew and when I am stressed I sew and it is like taking a pill but better because I then have something in the end to use!! An apron, cloth diaper, shirt, skirt or something.

I used to sew years ago, but having had a sewing machine in years. It's good you have that to de-stress, way better than taking a pill.

I love scrapbooking before but when I got married, I stopped doing it and was busy with other stuff...Now, after reading this, I guess I have to do it again since I have a lot of photo that needs to be organized!
