I admit that eventhough I am a teacher, I sometimes confused with words that are not commonly being used... of course, we do encounter such things... but there are words in English that we sometimes confused or even forget about the correct spelling coz we simply switch it into a simpler one like when we're texting... and with those words that have double consonants.. here are just a few of the examples: occassion --- occasion proffessional ---- professional embbarrass ---- embarrass addres ---- address tommorrow ---- tomorrow so with the words that contain many letters... none of us are perfect even if someone can say that he/she is a literate person or has the highest rank in class. Still, he/she commits errors like these~~~ I am not saying that I am a poor teacher in terms of spelling.. nor not a good teacher at all.. just to say that normally, we get confused about English words, even native speakers too. so here folks, what are the words that you get confused usually with their spelling? have it listed.. no one can judge you doing so.. have fun listing it down.. and enjoy my topic.. have a great day~~~

uk vs usa - The different spelling but with similar pronunciation between UK and USA.
I came to Malaysia in Dec. 2006, as an American expatriate in this country at the beginning period of time, a real nettlesome to me in this particular of native speaking and spelling to some words that is similar in pronunciation but a slight different in spelling. Malaysia is a post-colonial country which follows British native speaking and spelling. The faves common words are; BRITISH versus AMERICAN 1. maneuver - manoeuvre 2. aluminium vs aluminum (this is due to historical happenstance) 3. plough vs plow 4. cheque vs check 5. behoves vs behooves 6. tyre vs tire 7. bevvy vs bevy 8. cypher vs cipher 9. draught vs draft 10. gaol vs jail 11. omelette vs omelet 12. yoghurt vs yogurt TOTALLY DIFFERENT ARE; 1. lorry vs truck 2. biscuits vs cookies 3. pick up vs truck

oh yeah!~~~ you're right Michael. Here in my country, rarely we use British. We have known from school that British has the letter 'u' as its difference with an American spelling like: British --- American favour -- favor and so with double consonants.. it become a practice everyday we meet such words. =)

License usually trips me up. Tomorrow sometimes gets me as well. I will also admit that I am not a fabulous speller. I know it so when I type I take the measures such as using spell check to check my work before I send it out there for others to see.

I get confused with alot of words! Hereis my list; comfortable, exist, existence, ambition, achieve, dementi, alzhiemer;s disease, disguse, mechanic, attach or attachment,, option, imagine, ignore, appearance, decision, opinion, opportunity, except, expect, excactly, fianances, financial or financially, prescription, subsribe, presribe, subscription, appreciate, and necessary! That isn't all of them! I spelled them correctly because if I spelled these words wrong you would never guess what word they are! I get very frustrated trying to spell my list of words! For sure "Mediterranean" always give me a hard time. Then there is "occasion", this is a very simple word but get me mislead.

"Conscious" versus "Conscience". I've ALWAYS gotten these words confused, since elementary school until now, in college. I mix them up and spell them wrong all the time. "Convenience". This word always gives me trouble. :/ "Rhythm". This word's sole purpose is to trick people, I swear. Those are the only three I can think of right now, I'm sure more later. :]
