how to record a video for demo ?

Hi mylotters,i would like to know how to record a video for a demo? Is there any free softwares to record a video ? i would like to record a video for explaining a software installation in the system and so on.

If you search on internet, there must be many freeware or shareware software available to record video provided that the device you use i.e webcam, digital camcoder, etc supports it , which usallay is compatible.
The very good software are also available but you have to buy them
