i want to visit my parents but my brother is sick.. i just got over (some days i dont even feel im over it yet though) a cold that lasted over 2 weeks that literally crippled me and i always have a crappy immune system to begin with.. well obviously i dont want to catch it AGAIN or anything else and i know my system isnt built up yet so how long should i wait AFTER my brother is over it till i can go see him? dont germs hang around for a few days?? im thinking a week after he is well should be safe right??

Hmm... that would really depend on the sickness that your brother is suffering from, doesn't it? It also depends on how well ventilated is the place he is staying. If the place is stuffy, the germs are going to be hanging around a lot longer than necessary. But if the place is well kept and well ventilated, one week should be good for any sickness.

Down a big cup of orange juice as an additional precaution then! The vitamin C in the juice may help fight any residual bug your brother has in his place!

I don't know but I know that there is an incubation period of about 10 days when you don't have symptoms yet but you are actually the most contagious

From what I know of the cold virus, you're only contagious for one week. After that, it's safe to be around people without worrying about catching it or giving it. My sister lived her last 5 years in a nursing home and, whenever there was an outbreak of any kind of virus, they would literally quarantine the place for one week. No one was allowed to visit unless they were not sick AND wore a mask, and if it was absolutely necessary that they visit. So, that basically backed up what I knew... one week and the contagious part is over. That also means that the germs are no longer hanging around on hard surfaces, either. You're good to go if it's been over a week since your brother got sick.
