workshop is a tremendous help for our kids, but if we don't have spare money to enroll them during summer, I think , we should come up with alternative home summer activity that would enhance their skills, even at home , like come up with a cooking with mom activity, providing them basic skills on how to cook basic food , it would be a great time to enjoy moment with each other, sing with your kids thru videoke, that would also enhance his/her voice in formal way, even playing with them or going out at the park, have them play with your neighbors and relatives that involves physical activity, if they are fond of computer, why don't you visit a website that have free lessons offering online to avoid playing computer games. I think no need to push your kids to enroll in a formal workshop schools, at least they have enjoy their summer with the family and loved ones without interfering the chance of learning even at home.

My daughters go to school year round. Their only month off during the summer is July. We have to spend that time getting ready for the next school year (school ends at the end of June & the new year starts at the beginning of August). We got to visit my family, they visit my in-laws. We also have a few traditions we have been doing with them for years. I don't stress much school wise during that time except I do expect them to read. They love to read so it is not a problem.

I will most likely do the same for my son when he gets old enough for it. Keeping children busy often times keeps them out of trouble.

Back when I was a kid, my mom would force me into art-related summer classes [which I enjoyed, mind you] so that my summer isn't put to waste. I can say that it all paid off because now I sing, draw, read, write and edit videos to my heart's content. But I think it's up to you. Yes, you can have alternate summer activities at home, but you should take into consideration whether you, the parent, are always at home, or not. You may have activities for them, but if you're the 8am-5pm working type then it's all scratched out and summer school's the best way to go.
