We often overlook the fact that small children too have brains and they to have the power to think. There may be times when they do not feel like talking to anyone and there may be times when they like to be left on their own. Do we treat them with respect and give them their private moments of solitude or we as parents and elders just impose our will on them. How old should a child be to be treated with respect and be given his own personal time?

If a child is cranky a leave the room or dosen't feel like talking then just leave them alone - they need there private time just as you do :)
