Lets Give Ourselves a Snow Day

With so much to do all the time, it can be difficult to find time to simply breathe and think. When life’s frantic pace becomes too much for us, it may be time to take a Personal snow day. These are best taken when we feel like we are running on empty with no chance of respite in sight or when we begin to resent the life that we once loved. Our snow day can go a long way toward dispelling built up stress, provided we give ourselves full permission to indulge in nurturing activities. It is not a day to worry about what we are missing or what is still lingering on our to-do list. Rather, it is a day to give ourselves a break from our responsibilities so we can return to them when we are fully alert. Once we have scheduled our snow day, we must try to commit to ignoring our chores, not calling our place of work, and doing only the activities we enjoy. Relax, take a nap in the afternoon, play with children, meditate, work in our garden, or read a novel. Take a long walk in the fading afternoon sunshine and then cook a special dinner for ourselves. Let our snow day be as languid and as lazy as we need it to be. If necessary, we should prepare for our snow day by getting anything we think we will want or need ahead of time. Clean up or pay the bills the day before so we are not tempted to work. When our snow day is over, hold on to its essence. Take some of the peacefulness we felt and keep it close to our heart. Even though we are a society that values overtime and hard work, we deserve a snow day every now and then and we will return to our place of work refreshed and ready to take up our responsibilities once again.

Hi Pose123! I do love what you have just written here. Although, we don't have snow..maybe I can call it snow day too! lol... just joking! I would love to have one of those days wherein I can just have it for myself, being free from all worries, stress and responsibilities. I would just love to have a day alone for myself and no one else. I really don't have those of kind of days, although I have those for a few hours. But I do know the importance of having it so I can be well recharged. A day is something I would really need to have soon. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

Hi faith, Of course you can call it a snow day, since you don't have snow you even pretend you did LOL! Anyway we do agree that it's good to have one of those day every once in a while. Blessings.

There are times in my life when LIFE just seems to pile up to the point I can't cope any more. That is when I take the snow day as you call it. I retire to my bedroom, read my bible and just let whatever is happening pass by. There is not much I can do to change it, so why spend a day in making myself merisible. Sometimes we just need to regroup and then we have a better outlook on whatever is coming our way.

OMG Pose... I feel more relaxed just reading that! LOL I would LOVE a snow day myself... that would be awesome. My sister firmly believes in doing this now and again - although, she doesn't call it a snow day - she calls it her "Mental Health Day" :) I think it's a fabulous suggestion. We are so caught up in the running and doing and LIVING of every day that we often don't give ourselves the permission to just stop... to breathe... to think of ourselves in a more selfish manner... to do something we love instead of something we "have" to do.

I am totally with you on that. I am only in high school and thank God my parents allow me to take a day off from school every once in a while. I am at the #1 school for academics in my state and it gets very stressful. I also play sports and that can be very demanding, also. Although my life is not the same as adult's life, it is just as stressful, and demananding. We have chores, activities, work, and some times I have to cook for my parents and siblings. I can not believe, by siblings are out of the house, but they still come over and eat a lot. Once again I agree that it is a necessity to take a so-called "Snow Day" when you are running on empty, but you have to be sparse with the amount of days you take off.

Hi seredipiti, Thank you for your thoughts on this. Of course your life is stressful and demanding and you need a snow day as much as any adult. Some people don't realize this but I've never forgotten how difficult school can be especially when a lot is expected of you. Blessings.
