Kids are fussy aren't they! And each one wants something different..so I found a solution.
I buy..for example chicken cream soup..I add milk instead of water and then I add what the kids like..mushrooms, celery, etc. It doesn,t take long and cheaper to just add to a canned soup than to do from scratch..also what I do..if one doesn't like mushrooms..once the soup is hot..I pour in the bowls and just add in..just like a pizza..hehehe..
Kids love it and me too..
I also like to drop eggs in the soup..which I dont break..when the soup is ready..I drop the eggs in and close the stove. Delicious!

Hello DancingRedFeather1! Buying canned soup may be a quicker and cheaper way to make soup, but there's a reason why you should make your soup from scratch. Many canned soups (Campbell brand for sure) contain MSG (monosodium glutamate), both under that name and in many other forms under its hidden names. MSG is an addictive food additive that causes irreversible brain damage and affects the nervous system. MSG is what is called an excitotoxin and can aggrevate or precipitate neurological disorders, including Alzheimers! So, while in the short run, canned soup may be cheaper, in the long run, the effects of the food additives in that soup will cost much more. Please check your food labels for things containing MSG, including it's hidden names (http://www.rense.com/health3/bdam.htm), and get rid of them. Do research on MSG, aspartate (NutraSweet), and other excitotoxins. People need to be more aware of this information, so they can make better choices for themselves, their families, and especially their children, who unfortunately, can only eat what they are given, whether or not it's good for them.

Thanks for the information..of course I do read any lablels before buying. It's too long to make from scratch and since one doesn't eat soup everyday I don,t think a litte msg would cause any brain damage..its always in the long term that is dangerous..but as I said..I always read the labels before buying. SPLENDA..is also very bad..I quit buying anything that has what your wrote and SPLENDA..its is just as dangerous.

Those sound like some nice easy additions. I hope you take time to thoroughly cook the eggs though. You want to make sure you avoid salmonella. I'm sure if it is going into boiling soup, it is getting cooked enough though. I think you are doing the right thing to cook yummy things with the soup.

Oh yes of course, I make sure the egg is well cooked and as you said..it is in hot soup so it does cook properly.
Yes,it is so yummy to add things to a soup..when you have a large family you have to think of ways for it to go around also and not cost too much.
People are suprised when I serve them soup and there is a cooked egg in it..they say..wow..what is this..I say..taste.and its always ohhhhhh my goodness this is great!
I started this because I was too lazy to take the once..the frying pan and the other to boil ..so I said..why not put it directly in and PERFECT..it is really great..try it on people when they come to eat at your place...kids love it too.

YEEES..you can hide alot in soup..hehehe. If they don't like to drink milk it's because they have an intolerance to it..so in the soup is perfect. I never forced my kids to eat or drink anything they didn't like.
I made muffins with brocalli and other veggies in it and they loved that.
You take a blender and mash the veggies ..then insert in the cake prepartion and then in the muffin pan..
Works perfectly..and delicious so the get their cake and veggies. lol
Hey if you go some tips..write them..I think we need all the tips we can get lollll

DancingRedFeather1,
Oh, who isn't fussy, sometimes adults can be even more fussy when they are picky about food.
Children, most of the time are just inquisitive and they can be quite disagreeable when the food does not turn out right in appearance, smell and taste. Note the sequence, find it quite similar with life impressions and recall an old adage where it says that first impression is always important that will either make or break for a person. So like an old ancient Chinese proverb: “Don't be over self-confident with your first impressions of people”, so will you try not to be too self assuming and over confident with your food preparation. You may like what you cook but they may not like to eat it.
We just need to be ever resourceful and creative with our food preparation, I remember a lot of times using cookie cutters, ice cream molds, carving knives and even baking cup trays to create interesting shapes for their whims and fancy.
Then, there will be the coloring for the sauces how to make them both attractive and tasty. This is really a trial and error process where it will need your undivided attention to detail to the type and just how much condiments and spices to add to your food, soup and main dishes.
Here's a simple children snack recipe to elaborate what I mean:
Bread with Ham and Cheese
* Fit the bread in the muffin cup. (I use a 6 cup tray).
* Add some (Mozzarella) Cheese
* Some (shaved) Ham
* Some Cheddar Cheese
* And sprinkle on some Parmesan Cheese.
* Baked on 180C for 5 minutes.
* Remove the bread from the muffin cup.
* The results will have the bread looked like a flower or a cup with all the ham and cheese inside.
* Serve with a drop of ketchup on the center.
Note:
* Do not throw away those extra ketchup packs you get at the Macs, KFC or other fast food joints. To make the ketchup drop easier.
I think your children will be fascinated here and hope that they will enjoy this over some unhealthy tidbits.
Have a nice day.

hello dancingredfeather
i hear ya about children being picky eaters like that. i have a ten year old son that is fixing to turn eleven here at the end of February. he is so picky. he makes me so mad when i cook dinner, he will not even taste something or should i say anything at all to know if he likes something or not. he automatically knows that he does not like that. but yeah, both of my children love to put different items into their soup, but the egg is a new one on me. does the egg actually get done when you drop it into a hot bowl of soup like that? thanks for sharing that information. they like to put pepperoni and shredded cheese into their tomato soup.
take care and have a beautiful evening.

Kids love Ramen noodles and Campbell's Chicken & Stars. Actually I never heard of kids not liking soup. Kids usually like anything that doesn't look gross. Soup doesn't look gross at all.
