Just watched this touching movie starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, and I simply want to encourage everyone here to watch it. Richard Gere, plays the famous surgeon Dr Paul Flanner who happens to be traveling to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. He was there to meet up with a patient's husband Mr Robert Torrelson (Scott Glenn), who died under his surgical procedure and later travel to Ecuador to reconcile with his estranged son. Whilst Diane Lane, plays Adrienne Willis, a woman with her married life in chaos, faced with a wayward husband who has asked to come back, and a teenage daughter who resents her every decision. Desperately needing some peace to rethink and resolve her conflicts, she volunteered to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend which happens to be you know where - the little coast of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Two unhappy people meets in this wonderful rustic inn and soon find their lives become entwined when they have a life changing romance in a hurricane storm on an eventful weekend. I was quite touched with the words of Adrienne telling her daughter about love and I quote: "...but there's another love, Amanda, where it gives you the courage to be better than you are; not less than you are. One that makes you feel that anything is possible. I want you to know that you can have that and I want you to hold out for it. I want you to know that you deserve it!" Simply beautiful and a movie worth watching.

I haven't seen this movie but I know that it is based upon a book by Nicholas Sparks who also wrote "A walk to Remember" and " The Notebook". I have heard so many great things about these books AND movies. I will definitely have to check these out for myself. Thanks for the discussion.

rocketj1, I saw the other title you have read "The Notebook" starring the veteran actor James Garner, too. It is also a good show. So, far I have seen him in both shows "The Ultimate Gift" and "The Notebook" - he is simply superb. Very touching stories. Do check it out and I am sure you wouldn't be disappointed. Have a nice day.

I have not seen the movie yet, but I have read the book. I enjoyed the book. I never know if I want to see a book made into a movie because sometimes they do a poor job. Thanks for recommending it. I will probably wait till it is out on DVD to watch it.
