Spread The Wealth Around--Don't Spend It All In The Same Place!!

This next article should let everyone know where they stand as far as your "tax cut" goes. It looks like single workers will get a cut of 500 dollars per year and couples will get 1000. Now most people here could probably do something a little worthwhile if those amounts were going to be rebated in cash at one time but the "cut" is going to be in your with-holding from your check so what this means is, if you are single and get paid bi-weekly you will bring home an additional $19.23 in every paycheck after it takes place and couples will bring home double that. Hmmmmm, at today's prices, we can't go out for a steak dinner for that or a movie and popcorn or even a weekend trip to grandmas! So to be able to do anything significant with the "tax cut" you would have to save it for a couple of weeks. Tell me, is saving this money going to stimulate the economy? Here is the article: http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/02/05/unclear-how-stimulus-will-dole-out-tax-relief/ After reading this, come back and tell me if you feel slighted or ignored. Does this "stimulis" porkage do enough for the working people or does it pander to the pet projects of the democrats? What is really ironic about all of this is that when it is all said and done and this fiasco passes congress and the president signs it, President Obama can tell everyone that he in fact fullfilled his promise of a tax cut for the middle class! LOL

How does this help the millions of Americans, like myself, who aren't drawing a paycheck because we've lost our jobs? Oh, that's right...job creation. So far I can look forward to repairing roads, working in a gator ridden national park or on some other stupid project that does not come close to making use of my massive computer, project planning and management skills.

Spalladino, That is a very good question and one that needs answering! I understand part of this bill is supposed to have an effect on unemployment benefits but even those are no good if you have already exhaused your benefits.

Spalladino, What really bothers me most (and I'm not making light of your situation because it really is terrible)is the fact that this bill does nothing to address the real crux of our economic dilema and that is jobs. From what I read less than 10 % of this "stimulis" porkage goes to infrastructure (roads, bridges etc.)and nothing to incentivize companies to hire new employees or incentives for new business start-ups and this is where the salvation of our economy lies! Basically it is an Obama/democrat payback bill designed to line the pockets of the unions and entities like ACORN in repayment for getting him elected.

Not only will my benefits be exhausted in May but I'm receiving them through the Railroad Retirement Board because I was a railroader. They have no plans to extend benefits to former railroaders.

Whoopi-doo! So how does that help all the people who do not have jobs and the retirees or seniors ???

Whiteheather, In the next few years I hope to be one of those retirees and I believe they need some kind of a break as well as do the people who have become unemployed because of this economy. Although I do not agree with giving big business money because they are failing I do believe tax incentives need to be given or we will not see even half of these jobs that have been lost over the course of the last few months coming back. I don't see how giving coupons for changing your TV over to digital or re sodding the national mall is going to help the economy recover. About 60-70% of this bill is pure pork and will not affect the economy except negatively!

It totally ignores people like me who have been uneployed for 20 years and, through being very frugal and saving, have managed to survive off of a meager income from dividends and interest from investments. I will get no break even though my income is dropping like a rock due to everyone cutting dividends and interest rates going down. It also appears to give no break to seniors.

I think, instead of giving billions of dollars to big business, they would have been better off to divide those amounts among the American people - give it to the people who will spend it on goods and services to stimulate the economy. We've seen what these big companies have chosen to do with the money they got and none of it has done anything for the economy.

Newtondak, I believe I'm with you in this one. Instead of rewarding the financial sector for shady if not downright illegal practices the American taxpayer would have been the better choice for this money. Most people would have caught up mortgages if they were in arrears and the general effect whatever the amount per taxpayer would have been would have had more of a positive effect thanjust giving large sums of money to people who have already been unethical and unwise.

It does not even give money for children like the last one did, and a extra 19.23$ per week might is almost un-noticeable.

markbrauer, Yeah, it kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth, doesn't it? Almost 800 billion to "bailout" the financial sector and another 40+ billion for the auto industry but the working man/woman get's next to nothing! Pathetic!
