Low cost home cooking

While not mylotting, my computer time was limited (by my own desire) to checking e-mails, myspace, and looking for recipes for good but cheap food (especially for my diabetic room mate since I've never had to cook with any restrictions). Anyway among my internet wanderings I found a really awesome "frugal site". It's called Hillbilly Housewife www.hillbillyhousewife.com It seems to have a lot of great information on how to cut your grocery bill along with the recipes to prepare real food from scratch (presumably cheaper than store bought, though I haven't compared yet). The recipes I have gotten to though have been absolutely delicious...especially the oh so decadent tasting chocolate cake and frosting. I figured a lot of us could use any extra help these days with cutting costs so I wanted to share that with you all! Anyone else using other "frugal" sites to get through these difficult economic times...or have you always used them (and common sense) regardless of finances?

I haven't look up any sites like that one. I will definitely take a look at it. I just buy in bulk and do a lot of home cooking. Stock up on beans, rice, eggs, breads, chicken, pork, pasta all pretty basic foods that don't cost a lot and that are healthy.

Pasta, beans, and bread are definitely among my biggest staples. And buying items in bulk can stretch a budget a long way! The site has mostly healthy foods too...but I just wanted to share that even splurge items like dessert can be done cheaply.

I have heard that site mentioned before, but I have never really checked it out. I will be sure to bookmark it this time so I can check it out later. Frugal cooking is almost necessary anymore.

I have always been a seeker of frugal living. It just makes sense. I don't make a lot of money, but we live very well. We are well fed, our house looks nice (only two pieces of furniture was purchased new!). Every thing we can safely do ourselves, we do. We grow our own produce and buy second hand when possible.

I have been through that site in the past and it is one of my favorites. Its a great place to get your creative ideas flowing. I think I will be going back there tonight to get motivated, I need it.

Thanks for sharing. I think we all have become accustomed to using prepared products because they are faster and easier. Though in these uncertain times we all need to get back to the basics. Thanks for sharing.

Hey foxy! What a great site! Thanks! I can always use more tips to save money! I do try to do my best while I am shopping I try to buy sale items as much as possible. I also try to stick to store brands if they are the cheapest! When cooking I make a bit more then necessary to have leftover for another meal. And sometimes when I have leftovers I put them together to make a whole new meal! I don't just throw them all together in one pot, but I can manage sometimes to make them all fit into a nice meal that actually makes sense and saves cents!
