Are you always updating your software ?

Updating software might be a insignificant matter, but if we forget in updating our software especially our OS and security software, we might risk our computer. I'm always using an automatic update for my anti-virus, while for my OS (mine is Windows XP) and other software (like MS Office, Winamp, ACDsee,Acrobat Reader, etc) I'm prefering manual updates, so I can manually choose wich updates are going to be installed in my PC. How about you, are you always updating your software ? Or do you think it's not a necessary matter.

Most of the time yes but I don't go for Windows update because it will only eat up my system harddisk only. I have experiences in past that it will still catch virus even if you update you windows. So, I go for only my antivirus update.

Ys, you are true. Earlier I was also a very fond of WU and I have used SP3 also. It doesn't improve anything but slows the system and eat up the hard disk space also!

I thinks it's necessary to update our softwares because it increases software stability and system security. I update my Windows, Avast!, Spybot and Ccleaner. Sometimes there are additional features after the updates so that will come as a good surprise.

Yes. It's a good practice but before you update a software see to it that you create backups on it.

Are you updating your antivirus my friend ? Even though your not downloading files, but you keep your computer at risk while your online. This risk become bigger if you don't update your antivirus. Because many virus are created each day and updating our anti virus can reduce this risk. But I'm happy that your PC are running well :)

I update my software regularly especially antivirus and spyware programs. There are other software like Ms Office application that i often update and without doing it does not allow files created with newer versions in older version.

Updation of software, especially OS is a must one. But as you said, manual updates are better, as if we set automatic updates ON, it will starts some processes(we can see these in the task manager),which will consumes CPU and memory usage more. The updation process will take 2 or 3 minutes every day. But these process will run throught the day, results in slow down of computer.

Yes, with manual updates we also have the option to choose which updates are convenient for us to install.

For the most part, yes. keeping anti-virus up to date is a must for me, along with Word, Photoshop, etc. I usually manual update too, because I want to know what I'm installing and/or updating. The only recent time that I didn't update was on my XP. I wasn't about to update to service pack 3 when people were saying the update was making their computer crash.

Yeah, my XP also stays in SP2, this is because my IT friends recommend me to do so. SP3 got a lot of bugs in it.

I can keep my movie player, document writer, download manager, P2P softwares all outdated, but not the Operating System and Antivirus program. They are so important. If they behaves incorrectly, my machine will be in danger. Therefore, I must ensure they are running in the most updated version will most fixes acquired. I have turned on the automatic updates for Windows (my OS) and Kaspersky (my Antivirus program). I also check updates manually in case the auto updates are not working as expected. For the other programs, I use not to update unless major changes on functionalities or user-interfaces have been made.

That's pretty much the same as I do Jickyeung. Except that I prefer manual updates for my Windows. Cheers !
