Should I stop my hair loss

So, I am going to be 35 this year. I have always had a full head of hair, but I think that I am starting to lose it. Whenever my wife cuts my hair (Yes, we do have her do it to save us money), she mentions that my growing bald spot is getting worse. The question at hand is this...should I look into rogaine? Has anyone out there on mylot tried it? Is it expensive? Does it have side effects? Does it work? My personal inclination is to let nature take its course, but my wife likes the full head of hair. If its not too expensive/painful I'd probably do it just to keep my better half happy. Thanks! oG

You can stop, or a least slow down your hair loss if you choose. Right now I'm using both generic Roagine and generic Propecia. Rogaine goes directly on the scalp, and Propecia is an oral tablet. I'm older than you, but i have seen some new growth on my head, and the hair on the rest of my body has changed. (I.e. The hair on my back starts going away, and the hair on my chest changes texture.) You probably won't see any side effects from Rogaine, but you might with Propecia. In theory, Rogaine could cause local irritation and possibly a decrease in libido. In reality, both of those side effects are extremely rare, and even if you had them, all you have to do is go off the medication. Propecia on the other hand can cause a decrease in libido, and will affect your PSA levels. (PSA is the test your doctor will perform to monitor for prostate cancer. You just need to let your doctor know you are taking Propecia.) I had a slight decrease in libido, which was a good thing for me, but my body adjusted to it pretty quickly. Generic Rogaine is dirt cheap, and available over the counter. (Think Sam's Club.) Propecia is expensive and requires a prescription, unless you buy it on the internet from overseas. If neither you or your wife cared about the hair loss, I'd say let it go. Since your wife cares, I'd give the generic Rogaine a shot. If the Rogaine doesn't help, and you still want to stop hair loss, I'd add on the generic Propecia. Generic Propecia from overseas doesn't require a prescription, and will cost about 13 dollars a month. Brand name Propecia will cost 70 dollars a month, and will require a prescription. My situation was the opposite. My wife didn't care, but I just didn't want to be bald. Hope that helps.

Cool! Thanks for the all of this great information! I definitely think about the rogain. Does anyone know other stores where you can get it? Do they sell it at the grocery store?

I am sorry to be the one to have to tell you this but you are contemplating a losing battle. Your problem is in your genes.

That's why I'm thinking about not fighting at all, and accepting reality. Does the hair loss continue with rogaine? Have you tried it?

Well, maybe it's just stress. I had a problem with hair loss before and what I did was just let it take it's course. Later on my dermatologist told me that it was Alopecia. I waited for like 4 months before the hair on my bald spot grow back. But if you really want it you could try that rogaine stuff. Nothing's too expensive when you really want it.

Just surprise her one day and shave the lot off...Bald heads are very sexy and very trendy. She will love the smooth feeling and I'm sure she will like the new look. Hair is over rated and at the end of the day like you say nature is taking it away from you so do something exciting and beat nature at her own game, I'm sure you wife with love it..
