She looks like a braided nightmare!

My daughter is learning to fix her hair. And she is trying desperately to braid it. She uses different colored pony holders, and barrets. The braids she makes actually hold. THe end result looks like a bad Bo Derek hairdo. But I try and be supportive. That is as long as she stays home. Would you let your child out of the house with a hairdo creation of their own making?

Yes, if I had a girl I would let her out of the house with a hairdo of her own makings. That is the only way for her to learn. Why not cut the apron strings and let her go for it.

Take photos and record the moment. You'll want photos to embarrass you child with later in life.

It is great she is trying her own hair. the only time we let my little sis out when she does her hair is when she brushes and just adds a pony or a head band. she hasn't tried braiding yet though but I am sure if and when she does it will be looking like a nightmare also. But I don't think I would let her go to town with it like that. I however have seen a few whom have let their children do that and it always looks bad because the children looked like they hadn't had their hair brushed in a month.

actually I have seen that my niece who is 4 yrs old also does this. she even make ahairstyle at the car itself. But it looks good on her. so we allow her to be herself.

Yeah sure! Why not? It'll be obviouse to everyone that looks she has attempted to do it herself! Take a few pics and tell her when she a teenager you let her out looking like it! LOL! So long as it's not school or somewhere you need her to be smart I don't see the problem!

Yes, I would. I bet your daughter is proud of what she has accomplished. As long as the hair do does not look like she just got up from bed, matted or a complete mess..it would do. When peopel ask, just say what happen. Your daughter was being creative and learning to braid. She wanted to show off her good work. That way you will encourage her to do her own thing. I have allowed my daughter to do her hair and still went out. She is only 8 yrs old. She may have had to many braids for my liking. But she was proud of her hair. Thats all that matter to me. She was happy.

Depends on where we are going. If we are running to the grocery store, sure, I would let her wear halloween costumes! They are kids and are expected to be weird!

Kids are kids and they are sometimes very passionate in what they believe in. My kids also had moments when they insisted they had to do things their way. I have a kid who once wanted to combine clothes and shoe colors that made him look like a Christmas tree. I let him be. All kids also had their "hair moments" where the gel got on so thick, I dare not touch their heads else my hand gets stuck there :p As long as we're not attending a wedding or a formal party, I let them primp themselves and wear whatever they like when we go out. Although I let them hold their dad's hand when we're walking in public places while I walk behind them LOL. Kidding! Nowadays, we just laugh together at their old photos where they looked really yucky (their words, not mine) :p

I guess it all depends on how bad it really looks. If it was just to the store or something quick I probably would let her. If we were going out to dinner or something I would try to convince her to let me try.

Maybe I would. I let them go out mismatched especially if they are not school as it's important to build their esteem that they did it themselves KWIM? They got their clothes on and if they don't match that's ok, the clothes are clean and they've accomplished something on their own for the day.

I guess it would really depend on what it ended up looking like. LoL I do not have a daughter, only a 14 year old son so I do not have that kind of problem really. Even though he is a boy, I STILL have a heck of a time getting him ready in the morning. He spends forever in the shower sometimes! He is getting a little better lately though. Thank goodness! :) Good luck with your daughter's hairstyling! Who knows... maybe she'll become a famous hairdresser some day!

I don't have kids but I would. I mean who really cares if their kids look a little silly. I know I did when I was little. I wore pink cowboy with everything I wore for like a whole year. I also wore mix matched socks. My mom never really cared. I don't think that argument would have been worth it to her. I was pretty stuborn.
