Cats & heartworms

I took my husbands cat to the vet today for behavior issues as well as missing teeth (which apparently he knocked out). So the Vet did a blood panel and everything came back okay except the marker for parasites/heartworms.
This could be something or nothing and i have to take him Tuesday to get the tests done. The test takes a few days to come back b/c it has to be sent out.
My husband is at training right now in another state. He said to not worry until we get the results back. As you can imagine that doesn't work for me If he was here I would probably not worry as much, but he isn't so I have to do all this myself.
So I am hoping for the best (flea allergy) and preparing for the worst (heartworms).
If this was your pet what would you do?

i would be worried sick till i got the news.. you know it makes me mad because i have had cats for YEARS and im just now being told by people that they should be on heartworm stuff! and yeah all mine have been indoors but they still should have been taking stuff to prevent it but the dozens of vets over the years said nothing!!

I think it really depends on the area, when we lived 30 miles south of here none of the vets said a thing about heart worms. However, in this area there are a lot more mosquitoes and more and more cats are coming up with heartworms so this vet recommends using the medicine. Of course your options are: heartguard OR revolution - thats it.
I have heard that Revolution is the same thing as cattle dewormer and that makes me sorta nervous, but they don't care for the heart guard treats. I don't know what ti do. I don't even like using the spot on flea treatments.
