I walk because I can!

"I walk because I can" - that's what I told people last year when asked who I'm walking for in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. After this past week, that's starting to change. From now on, I'm walking for me. And for my sisters, and for my nieces, my aunts, my mothers, my cousins, my friends... And you.
Last week was my scheduled routine mammogram. Two days later I received a call from my doctor's office telling me there were abnormalities in my right breast (my Saturn boob). I needed to go back for a second set of pictures. Chances are this is just calcium deposits. I went back Friday. The magnified pictures they took on Friday showed that the findings were probably benign. The radiologist suggests I return in 6 months for follow-up pictures. They want to track changes, if there are any, to determine what is going on and what, if anything, needs to be done. I will be talking with my doctor early next week to find out what is really the best option. Personally, I'd rather have the biopsy now instead of waiting 6 months good or bad...
Unfortunately, I don't really understand what is happening. Although I take my participation in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk very seriously, I barely paid attention to the details. I always thought "This will never happen to me, I just want to help other people." Well, something is happening to me and thankfully enough people have walked before me that I am able to find out very early in the game what is going on.
Thank you to those of you who were able to donate and support me last year. Your generosity and encouragement are helping me now, when I may need it the most. My "early detection" may be nothing, but it's very reassuring knowing that the capabilities are there for me.
I would like to share with you a couple things I have learned through this:
Get your scheduled mammograms, DO NOT put them off
Conduct regular self-exams
If the economy allows, click on the link in my profile and donate - no amount is too small or too big
If you can't donate, walk - it is truly an experience you will never forget
And remember - "Everyone Deserves A Lifetime!"
Thank you all for your continued generosity and support!

I know how scared you are and I feel for your girlfriend. I know they say do not dwell on it by how do you not. I hope by now your doctor has talked to you and relived your anxiety. I hope you are in Atlanta by now having a great time.
Forget all your stresses and have a good Friday the 13th and Valentines weekend.

I don't know if you're keeping up while you're waiting for the baby... My doctor gave me a referral to go to the specialist so I can talk to them and they can either show me what's going on or give me a darned good reason to be waiting 6 months. I know a lot of people have told me that the same thing happened to them and it was nothing, but they're not me... I'll know more next week.
We had a blast last night and today in Atlantic City - although we didn't really win...

This last two weeks have been pretty weird, there's no way I can do this for another 6 months! I'd be totally gray by then from worrying!!!

reiny, I'm so sorry that they have found something in your testing. You dohave a say as to what happens with your body and when testing is done. You can tell the doctor that you prefer the biopsy be done now. That you do not wish to wait. You have this right. It's not up to the doctor to say what and when things will happen with you. This is your choice, he is there to let you know the results/ You make the decisions. If that's what you want then tell him.
I being in your shoes would not wish to wait 6 months eitehr and have Lord knows what running through my mind. I'd get it done now and forget the wait.
Best wishes to you on the results of your test.
As for the walk, yes..continue being glad that you could do it. As many of us would love to but are unable to.

I love doing the walk, although I've only done one so far. I'm very fortunate that I can walk, but even the encouragement I get from others helped me out last year!
