Does anyone else agree that eBay is deteriorating as far as...

...what is being offered? It used to be that it was more like a garage sale where people listed things they no longer wanted for great prices. Now it seems like everything is being listed by big "companies" that make a living selling on eBay. It's all about the profit, and prices have skyrocketed. I also hate it when people offer items at low prices and then charge a fortune for shipping. There are so many scams there these days that I no longer feel very comfortable either buying or selling. What do you think?

There are still second hand items on ebay but also a lot of retailers. I still shop from ebay since I find a lot of products that are much cheaper then here. I agree with you about the high shipping prices and the ones I hate more are those that for a small item weighing just a few grams they charge about $40, I don't buy from these people and if everyone does that they will surely reduce the prices.

Actually I think that a lot of the sellers on eBay are using every trick they can think of to soak more money out of the unsuspecting. I'm not saying that there still aren't great sellers there, but I'm appalled by the thought that a lot of people are getting taken. It just didn't used to be that way so bad. I hate seeing it go down hill like it has. Thanks for your thoughts!

Personally I think Ebay has become something that only the BIG guys can do, and I have been avoiding Ebay now for about a yr. or so. I refuse to ever try to sell there, and people are charging rediculous fees for shipping now for sure. I now will buy or sell more from Craigslist than anywhere else, and find more satisfaction there even though you do have to watch for Scams now no matter where you choose to buy for sure.

Yes I do agree but it is because Ebay has started charging so much and only allowing a seller to offer paypal as payment. This being because then they get a cut of the payment too. I used to sell on ebay a lot and offered a little of everything from books, snow globes, other knickknacks along with clothing. Really cant afford to now because of the way they charge sellers. I do go there to buy certain things, however I wont buy from sellers that inflate their shipping costs. I never did that as a seller and I don't think it is right. In the end they don't want the little sellers, unfortunately it seems that a lot of buyers don't look at the other auction sites that are out there, so no other site can give ebay even a little competition. If that would happen maybe Ebay would have to change back to what it was. It used to be a nice place to sell.

I still like ebay. I use it all the time both to sell and to buy. I have never had any problems with ebay and have never seen any scams either.

I had to stop selling as I couldn't afford the high fees they were charging. My things were just small, inexpensive things and sometimes something more, but mostly kids clothes and books...and I couldn't afford the fees, so I had to quit. Every year they raised their prices in Feburary. They were trying to get rid of all the little guys as the little guys made to much competition for the bigger guys and that cut into Ebays earnings (at least this is my opinion) I don't buy off ebay as like you said... so many charge a realistic price for the items but then hike up the shipping to something huge so they don't have to pay Ebay fees on the final value price of the item. That is just cheating ebay out of their earnings (not that I care) but I figured, if they are knowingly and willingly cheating Ebay, how can I trust them with my purchase?

I have noticed a decrease in items, and personal sellers as well. I have been watching a lot on what I do on ebay. I haven't made any purchases recently for the fact that there hasn't been anything worth my while. My past transactions on ebay have been great, and worked out perfectly. There are some scammmers out there, you just have to watch. Hopefully more people start posting on ebay, instead of retailers. The retailers are annoying, because they jack up the prices. Uuurgh. All in all I will continue to use eby, mainly just to look.

I think ebay seems to be getting more expensive. There seems to be alot of buy it now offers which seem to be very high. I would like it if there were a low bidding start to items. I havent been scammed so far so I have no problems using ebay. Sometimes they sell cheap sometimes its a scam but who knows. Thats why they made paypal as like a insurance to anything that happens. Have you ever gotten anything that was worth it. I get to buy things for 30 dollars while they are worth 60 at the store, thats why I like ebay. There are like few bidding sites that work and have great traffic. Ebay is no problem compared to small ones that want to make money from scamming.

I agree with you 100%. I shopped a lot on ebay at one time and got tremendous deals from private people. Now I think that ebay has encouraged people to make money selling on there and has created people having stores that may as well be in any mall. Ofcourse its all about profit and not about the good deals the average joe is able to get or not. Ebay even runs sessions all over at hotels on how to make money on ebay. All this has succeeded in doing is creating a more expensive environment in which to shop...I liked it better when people sold things for whatever they got just to get rid of unwanted items that someone else may want.

Well they raised the fees which effected the small time seller and now they dont accept money orders anymore. So yes its been going down hill and I dont even go there anymore. The site is not the Ebay I used to enjoy and visit regularly.

It reminds me a bit of what has happened in the UK with car-boot sales. They used to be filled with people setting up a stall next to their car with odds and ends they didn't want any more. Now they are filled up with market traders.
