I'm in the craft mood today for some odd reason...well, not really odd.. just a "moment in time" thing... it is raining outside and so quiet and I love hearing the rain fall and that used to me "MY" day for crafts. I loved those days! But time has moved on, life has changed and I dont' do crafts much anymore... however, I still love reading about them and often find a few that I can do with my grand daughters. THis is a pretty cool article about some great things to make quickly and easily for the kids and for gifts! http://affordable-family-fun.suite101.com/article.cfm/more_creative_homemade_gifts

I looked at the site and they had some pretty good ideas. I particularly liked "The Year You Were Born" idea. I had just been thinking about making my daughter a scrapbook. I may just enhance it by adding the "Year You Were Born" idea. Thanks for the tip.

I did do a Year You Were Born page for both my kids 1978 and 1982 - they both love that page as a favorite! I even enjoyed it as I remembered them at that age and all the issues of those things - good and bad! Slouch socks!! Hey!!! This ia also a great way to accumulate alot of memories in a limited amount of space. I made a pocket and had the printin on the front nad a page that sliped into the pocket so there could be LOTS of the things from that year! If you want to see my scrapbook layout on how I did mine, its in my blog on my profile of Scrapbook Layout Ideas.

Could you provide me a link to your blog and do you know of any good sites to get headlines and stuff like that from?

Hey guys, I love your ideas. I may as well do that for my daughter's scrapbook. I have a scrapbook for her which include the photos and events from the time she was born. I love doing it but haven't updated it for sometime.

I like the year you were born idea too, that would even be fun for an older person and to add pictures from different products that were available back then. There is a site too but I dont know it right off hand that you can go and put in your birth year and it will tell you all the news from that year, so it would help give you a start. I also saw the idea on there about the single photo recipe book. Some ladies from church did this for my daughter as part of her shower gift when she got married. She was so glad to have the favorites from some of her favorite friends, and in the middle one put in -Call Dominoes and order a pizza! ha! Another idea that would work with this is to do a "cookbook" from a child about 4 or 5 yrs old. Ask them how to make something and record them saying it. Then go back and type their "recipes" and give them to granmas for a special occasion. It is hilarious how they tell you to cook it. Be sure to ask them questions for ingredients, at what degree to cook this, and for how long. Then the child can color a picture to slide in under the front cover. I did this with my oldest child.

I did a "just typing" family recipe book of my favorites and now, for years have been intending to do a scrapbook version of those recipes but just can't make myself do it! I could even just do it all digitally with Smile Box, but just don't seem to make the time...I hate myself for this!! But I guess I don't hate enough or I'd be doing that instead of this! But I do intend to do it! I have 2 grand daughters that love cooking and baking and I want them to have my recipes.

Thanks for the link coffeebreak! Just in time for today (I'm watching my 6 yr old grandson) We had planned on doing something craftwise today for valentines presents for his mom & dad. They have some really clever ideas there that seem easy for the younger set. (He'll be thrilled if I find something he has to use paste with, and use a little paint brush lol) I used to do a whole lot more crafts in the past than I do now, so it's always fun to get a little project going.

I know - I love to do crafts with my grand daughters. THe oldest almost 9, can take a piece of paper, scissors and a pencil and build a mall in the jungle with her ideas and creativity! She nearly completely decorated my house one halloween with orange and black paper, a pair of scissors a pencil a glue stick and some scotch tape!!! Only thing better than being a grand mother is being a mom.. you get them around you more as a mom! Have fun with your little one and the project!

Maybe check them out and make them yourself to give to kids or as hostess gifts or something like that. I am kind of in the same boat.. I have 2 grand daughters but they like to make the crafts themselves..nothing left for me to do for them!

I've done the scrapbook calanders before -t hey are nice but once the year is over, I never had a use for them to display and couldn't bear to toss them, so I just didn't make them again!
