Heads up...this is real.
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/obamaspeech.asp
There is a virus going around with several political topics. It takes you to a website that says to get a new version of Adobe Flash, but instead of getting it, it is getting ids and passwords from your computer.
Do not open these!
Don't you wonder why everyone can't play nice?

I once read an article by an ex hacker who now worked catching hackers. He had some interesting insights into the people who do this stuff. They mostly are geeky high IQ young males lacking in social skills who do not fully realize the harm they are doing while doing what for them is only attention getting show off stuff for the fun of it.
In the case you cite, they also are makeing money as criminals.
Mostly, hackers do this as a way of saying, "Ha, ha, I'm smarter than you!". When they also take your money, this is especially true.
The cure for this is severe punishment along with public humiliation. Then they won't think it is such a smart thing to do.

Well, you are probably right about them enjoying most forms of public humilation. However, I bet something could be done that would shame them.

I would think a public flogging would work, too. Just the thought of it would keep me honest.

redyellowblackdog in this type of situation I am a Robert Heinlein conservative. A public flogging would work.

Thanks so much for the warning. I try my best to be careful, but you never know. I don't understand why people want to destroy other peoples stuff, people you don't even know. I know some people are thieves and are just rotten and mean. This post is the first I have heard about this one.

I know it is sad that so many people just want to make our lives miserable and in so many cases with no personal gain.
I don't understand.
As stated above...they are loften very bright, but not real popular nerds...but can't they find something else to do...like write some video games and make a bunch of money?

I don't either...there must be a better way that someone smart enough to write these viruses can spend their time.

Hey Deb! Thanks for the tip! I don't know why people have to
keep doing things like this! At this point I am afraid to
open anything or dare to download anything either! It is so
easy to get caught with these scams and viruses! What is the
purpose of all this?
