A lap band is like a zip-tie for the stomach. It restricts your food intake. It is a tool however and not a solution. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I dont eat more than a 1000 calories most days, but for some reason I have a hard time losing weight. I just started eating better things today, I think Ive taken in like only 600-700 calories today. You cant drink while you eat, you cant eat bread corn or anything that will stick in the band. If you eat something that disagrees with the band you WILL throw up and it WILL hurt BADLY! I throw up all the time, off of stuff that Im supposed to be able to eat. Im looking for a new doctor, my last one was terrible! Theres more info at Lapband.com. Its really insightful. I wish that they would have had the Realize Band with the support system when I got mine...now I want another surgery with another doctor, which Im working on. Any specific questions just ask, Im always happy to answer questions.

Jodie- I've not had one but from what I've heard they are like anything, you can eat your way out of them. They require a great deal of will power on your end because you need to monitor all you are eating. From what I heard and read they basically just shrink the size of the passage to your stomach, but that they can slip. You may want to discuss this with your doctor and have the band checked on. I know that weight loss with the band is marked as much slower then if you had a staple done on the stomach. I am not sure I trust either procedure to be honest, because they aren't dealing with the other issues associated with weight gain, and eating habits. Again, run your questions past your doctor and perhaps meet with their dietician. Maybe she or he can come up with some good suggestions. Good luck, Anora
