Pole dancing for fitness

Has anyone tried this? We have a dance club just down the street and they offer pole dancing. I think it would be awesome to try with a few girl friends but I don't know any of my friends that would try it. Plus I think it would be awesome to learn some moves to do in front of my hubby. So has anyone tried it or thought about trying it?

That is a good one...LOL! I have thought about pole dancing (in private of course), as well as belly dancing. I understand that belly dancing is much better fitness wise but pole dancing would also be fun...specially when you can learn some things and feel comfortable enough to show your hubby. It would be a fun thing to do so just ask your friends...you may be surprised of the answers...people have many things they want to do but are afraid to mention it for fear of judgement. If they are your friends they will feel comfortable sying so.

thanks for the response. I have asked a couple but they really don't have the time, plus they say it would be fun but I don't know if they feel comfortably enough with there bodies to do something like that. But i might join myself sometime...right now hubby and I are saving up for a house so we don't have much for extra....and I just got my Wii fit.

I love my wii fit...but no pole dancing on that one...LOL! I can say that I am not 100% comfortable with my body but I know by doing different things that my body will change and help me be happier so I am open to everything...its too bad your friends aren't...could be helpful both to weight loss and self esteem. I advise you that when you are ready to spend the money to do something like that just do it for yourself...even if it has to be by yourself...you might be surprised on who else is there by themselves for the same reasons.

I don't believe it would be anything that I would try - I would think it would have to be some pretty strenuous pole dancing to burn many calories.

Have you ever tried any type of stripping or dancing....You don't have to be working to hard to buid up a sweat. It is a super good work out for all areas of your body. if you are sweating you are burning calories...I have tried some stripping routines and trust me....they are a good work out!!!!

I have done pole dancing in gentlemen's clubs, I have taught pole dance or vertical dance fitness as it is called for a short while. And I am now pole dancing for fitness just for fun at home. You can check me out and see my progression at www.youtube.com/synnisin. I can t4ell you that it is a great workout, both for cardio and for building lean toned muscle. I have been learning more advanced tricks by watching ple dancing videos on youtube. In fact I have three playlists worth of some of the best performances I have ever seen (several of them are men, rather than women, which people tend to think exclusively of when they think of pole dancing. Pole dancing is a lot of fun, it does bring out the sexy sensual side of your personality in a fun and safe environment. You should give it a try and see if you like it. Oh also there are instructional videos for both pole dance and belly dancing on you tube also. Go check out some of the vids. I really suggest that you check out the new World Champion for pole fitness Felix. The contest was just held in Jamaica in April so the video is fairly easy to find. Just type in 2009 Pole dancing world finals and you'll find several videos. Whether you do or don't decide take classes you chould know that it is a perfectly legitimate and accredited fitness alternative, and you will never have to disrobe for anyone other than hubby ever. Unless you want to.

Hey mag, Its a wonderful idea. Dancing is a wonderful and very effective way of losing weight and its very enjoyable as well. For girls its the best way as dancing comes natrually to most of them. Aerobics is thus so popular amongst ladies. What i would recommend to you is dont do by others comment. If u feel like u can do it then go for it. Go by your instinct and dotn wait for friends and all as they may be feeling shy to join. But let me tell u one thing once u start getting in shape and also u learn new moves, u will be able to motivate many others. Good luck! Cheers, Tutul
