Hello friends, I am new to the world of Chess and I really enjoy playing the game. I would like to know how many of you are rated by FIDE and what is your rating? How did you get rated? I know that for getting rated you have to participate in Open chess tournaments but then you have to play well, isn't it? For example, if I lose against 3-4 rated players, will I still get a rating?Or, if I beat a rated player but lose all my other games, will I get a rating? Please reply

Hello friend, I am sorry to say that you would never get an international rating by playing in online tournaments. FIDE is the world governing body for chess, just like the ICC is to cricket and FIFA is to football. There are a lot of clubs all over the world that are affiliated by FIDE and they organize tournaments from time to time, in which you can play and if you are good enough, you will get an International Rating by FIDE, after which you become a FIDE rated player.

Hi I am of Fide rating!! I have a rating of 1003.....What i kno is that, yes you have to participate in FIDE affiliated tournaments and have at least one point in the end...If there is one person without a point, then no one improves their rating. If u don't have a rating, you must participate in i believe it's 8 fide affiliated tournaments. I didn't know what that was about until i got my rating......I also know that there are different ways of getting youur rating in different countries and states. In trinidad (where i'm from) that's how it works.....Keep playing chess!! good luck on aqcuiring ur rating

Hello Chessboygw, I have participated in only one tournament till now and I could only get half a point against a rated player(1788) so i guess it won't count and I will have to start all over again.here in India, it is about scoring at least 3 points after having played at least 9 games against rated players to get a rating. However, it does not have to be in the same tournament.

I am not a FIDE rated player but I have participated in Rated tournaments where I have played against rated players.. Well..to obtain a FIDE rating you must play against 9 odd rated players..3-4 in one tournament..and rating counts ONLY in FIDE rated tournaments.. It all depends on how much rating the player you play against has.. Actually it is very tough to obtain a rating and maintain it because you must play 9 players per year(if I am not wrong).. Therefore to stay on the top you have to beat very good players and be consistent through out... I am hoping to obtain a rating soon:-).. Good Luck in chess! Ask me anything else you need to know.. Rook on!

Hello Wadon, Thanks for your wishes. yes, Chess is a game that requires intense concentration to beat the rated players. These days work is keeping me busy so i cannot spend much time on it. Hopefully I will get to participate in one more rated tournament before moving into a new city for my job. Cheers!

Hi jshekhar To get a FIDE rating, you have to play tournaments sanctions by them, or through your national federation tournaments, as they were also recognize by FIDE, international body governing chess as a whole. There is a system of rating called ELO, through this rating you could know what level you are as a chess player. Your rating will depend on your win, drawn or lose results.
