Should Congressional Democrats be Doing "Retreats"?

We hear about the junkets and retreats the companies that have been getting bail out money sponsor for their executives, but what about the "retreats" taken by our elected officials?

It seems our elected officials "pay" the bulk of the bill for these trips... er... I mean, it seems their campaigns pay for the bulk of the trips... which means they are using campaign money for things that have nothing to do with running for office.
Bribery and waste. That is what the House Democrat Caucus is all about.
Vote the scoundrels OUT!

We need to outlaw publicly funded elections. THat way the lobbyist can use it to buy our elected officials. Everyone gets the same amount and runs on it. Then you also outlaw lobbyist and special interest groups and any politican caught with one looses his or her job immiediately and gets charged with a felony.
I know this sounds harsh....but we have got to get their influence out of our government.

I think you mean outlawing privately funded elections, and require all candidates to use a set limit of public funding.
The proplem with outlawing lobbying is the unintended consequences. Do you really want to outlaw the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Red Cross or The National Rifle Association?
We don't need to ban lobbying, what we need to do is limit what they can and can't do.

A lobby group is nothing more than people joining together for a cause. It isn't the fact that people join together that is the problem, it's that the representatives of that group get access to our elected officials that we don't. They also get to write legislation and hand it to the elected official to "sponsor".
Those are the problems.
