Ok, im 27, but im starting to be paranoid over food.. The reason being my mother, aged 53yrs old got a stroke last year May due to hypertension and high blood pressure. Im not sure, but im starting to wonder that the reason for this could be my mother's love for durians, as well as the fats in pork. (the fatty oily portion). What will makes a good and healthy meal? Should a healthy diet starts early to prevent late sickness and illness problems? My mother getting a stroke at the age of 53 to me is consider to be extremely young.. To me, a healthy meal definitely consists of vegetable, fish, and meat. Meat doesn't mean the fats portion, the lean meat will do, either beef or chicken is good enough. I heard that fish is a good supplement for the brain. I sea-food allergy, so i will not take into consideration of prawns, lobster.. and of course, fruits after meal. P.S. no tablets to supplement additional vitamins for me, i believe natural eating is good enough.

In my opinion,a healthy meal should contain various kinds of vegetables and a little meat.Just have a balanced diet.As for me,I eat pork too much and I like fish a lot.Vegetable is also my favorite. So I guess my eating habits are not bad.lol. Take care.

I would say a nice salad and maybe a nice fillet of salmon as this is supposed to be one of the best fish to have but not only that my doctor suggests all woman over 50 take a daily mini asprin every day but my chemst takes it further than that and says everyone over the age of 30 should take one as so many young people are having strokes these days and seeing as your mother had a stroke at a rather young age maybe it wouldn't her to ask your doctor if maybe you should think of it as well..it can't hurt you as it is a special dose for that sort of thing.

please kindly forgive my ignorance, but i have never heard that aspirin is helpful to strokes. I thought aspirin is something like a pain killer? And yes, in fact, 3 months before my mum got the stroke attack, she took her BP at a clinic, but the doctor says her BP is only slightly higher then average, and any medication to bring down the BP is not necessary at that time.. 3 months later, she got a stroke attack.. so who can we blame?

yes you are right, asprin is a pain killer but it has been proven in a special dosage it helps thin the blood so in doing this helps stops strokes, here in Australia most people over a certain age are advised to either take the special dose asprin which is made especially for this purpose or to have half an ordinary asprin...keeping the the blood thin is very important...

I never know that aspirins thin the blood, well, my mother is taking another medication to thin the blood, thus i guess i will skip aspirins. She is getting alot better, though she still have major restrictions in physical movement, speech and memory wise.. .

This sounds like a good start. Try to incorporate 9-11 fruits and vegetables into your diet. Watch saturated fats in meats, margarines and butter for example. Also, watch your sodium intake. DH just had a stroke two weeks ago because he had high blood pressure and didn't take care of himself.
