What does taking a rain check mean? I have heard this too many times on movies and T.V. shows. And I really wanted to know what is the meaning of this type of statement. I know that it involves money. And it is most likely used when dating is involved, or when someone cannot make it to a date or appointment. Please tell me the meaning of this term. Thanks!

If you go to a store and they dont have an item in stock that you went there for you can often ask for a raincheck and they will give you a slip that you can bring in for a redemption when you have the item in stock. I think there are many things you
do and say when you are getting a rain check.

it usually means they're interested,but either they're too busy,or
do not have the finances to do whatever right now.it's not necessarily a blow off, they just for some reason have to wait on it.

I thing getting a rain check is just a way to still get the things you want even if the are sold out. If you go to a store to buy a toy that is on sale but the are sold out you can ask for a rain check so that when they come in you still get it at the sale price.

Taking a rain check is a term people use when they are not able to do something at the required time. I think people took it from the term stores use, when items are sold out or not available at the time, they will give a customer a rain check in order to get it at a later date.

Hey cream! A rain check simply means, can I have another chance
to go our with you or to do something instead of now or
whenever the date was supposed to be. If you are in a store
and they don't have an item that is on sale you ask for a
"raincheck". That means that when they get the item in you
get it at the sale price. A "raincheck" is just another chance
to do something or get something.

If someone asks you to do something or go somewhere and you are busy, you say take a rain check which means we will do it later or another day,it is another way of saying I will do it but I am busy at the moment.I want to do what you ask but I cannot do it at the moment.
