How I would balance and ensure economic growth.

Bring the troops home (that is costing the nation billions per day); close military bases and prisons on foreign lands (an outright act of aggression and imperialism); fire the terrorists in Washington DC and put liens on their assets until all tax questions have been settled and let civilians rule - thus bringing about the true meaning of "government of the people, by the people and for the people"! Hooray!!! Yep, you read it right, and by Netsbridge! Find more by Netsbridge at NetsbridgeTalk - http://www.geocities.com/netsbridge/domestic.html

One of the problems with closing the military bases overseas is, most of them are part of treaties that we would have to reneg on to close the base.

Well, then negotiate and close them! They are wasteful spendings, and outright acts of aggression and imperialism! These things have been known, historically, to be in foreign nations to aid puppet governments setup by the US, and thus resulting in anger towards the US government by the natives! I bet we would not be in this mess today had the nation learned to pay attention to its domestic affairs!

Ending the war in Iraq is a great idea, and it would save us billions (but would hurt the defense industry that sends millions to Washington every year). I don't think closing the bases overseas is really going to save alot of money, but I would be open to it. I like the idea of firing everyone in Washington, and forcing all of them to be audited by the IRS, and give the agents a special bonus of 10% of the tax dollars they find. It would be nice to see normal Americans running the government, but they should be limited to one term so they don't become what we have now. Most of our elected officals don't go to Washington corrupt, but I have yet to find one that left Washington an honest person.

How about putting everyone in washington on a pay scale like the rest of us? YOu know $8-$12 an hour, 2 weeks vacation after 2 years and 1/2 our health insurance paid and we pay the other half of ours and the full for our family and only 6 paid holidays a year, no raise increases and no bonus's... they lets see how they pass this "stimulus" plan of theirs!!!!

Thegreatdebater, but that is one of the problems about these frequent and unnecessary wars: It seems like we go to war just in order to create jobs and generate revenue for the "defense" industry and government, without taking into consideration the aftermath of war. I believe any nation could better than depending upon war for revenue! War comes with grave consequences; the humans involved often do not overcome the ordeal.

I would cut alot of wasteful spending, abolish the IRS and pass the fairtax plan. Impose strict fines on any company employing illegal immigrants. Executives of companies who received bailout money could not make millions each year or get big bonuses. Rescind the Community Reinvestment Act. Send less money overseas, do not automatically give any legal immigrant money for college or to start businesses. America loves to give people from India a full ride through med school or money for a business. But why not people who are already here. Investigate all state and federal agencies to see where they can save money. I have worked for the state and federal, both are about as efficient as a square wheel and wasted a lot of money.

Every time I hear a country complaining about the United States and the lack of "generosity" coming from us, I'd like to cut off their foreign aid. It makes me so angry! After all we send aid to countries all over the world and yet they constantly speak badly of us in the news and in the United Nations. Our bases all over the world also provide a boost to that country's local economy which no one ever discusses. I'm so tired of the constant bad-mouthing! It's time to take care of ourselves.

True, Deejean06, I agree that it is time that we take care of ourselves! Just imagine how different things would be in the nation today had the previous president paid some attention to domestic issues! As per military bases being a boost to the economy of foreign nations, I disagree! US military bases are known, historically, to be in foreign nations for the sole purpose of meddling and aiding the puppet governments set up by the US! Most of the anger by foreigners towards the US government results from this fact! It sure would be nice to learn to mind our own business!
