Shopping for Swimsuits: What Types Do You Buy?

I generally always buy a one piece. Except sometimes I will buy a tankini (those new two piece suits that look like a one piece, but are more convenient to take on and off). I was looking at swimsuits this year on eBay and found quite a different variety than I see in the stores out here. I saw swim dresses, which looked pretty cool to me even though I am not a dress person. I have a lot of stretch marks on my legs to hide. Really I'd love it if they made a one piece swimsuit with shorts for the legs or something. I always want to wear a bikini but I've never had the flat stomach. I did notice some monokinis hide the stomach a bit though. So that might also be an option. So what type of swimsuit do you generally buy? What do you like about it? Are there any cool swimsuits unique to your area that you don't really see much in other countries? I've always kind of wondered if they are made in different styles in different places. It didn't seem like it from eBay, but it's hard to tell there since there wasn't much representation from countries other than the United States and China.

I like one piece suits. My stomach looks horrid and I like to keep it hidden. Also for swimming a one piece is so much more practical. It will never fall down or show body parts that aren't meant to be seen by strangers.

Amen to that! I need to keep my stomach hidden too. And definitely embarassing to have a suit fall off, so it's nice to know that won't happen with a one piece. I thought I just bought the ultimate one piece swimsuit, I found one online that even came with shorts attached! How great is that? Even hides my thighs. But although I couldn't try it on yet, I have a bad feeling it is too small because it looks way way way too small! But I will hope for the best, because it sure looks cool. Although I need to figure out how to line the top because the top is for some reason unlined which really isn't going to be good at all.

This one didn't stretch enough. :( I couldn't even get it up my legs. I went with the inches, not the size. But apparently the seller thinks a ladies 8 to 10 is the same size as a children's 16. This is more like a child size 16, I would believe that. But the measurements were for someone of my size. Ugh. Oh well, guess this will be a spare suit for when tiny people come over and forget their suit.

They always look small, but suits stretch. I have a 2 piece shorts set that covers everything. I love it. It's easy to get into. I use it for laying in my wadding pool in the summer.

Thanks for the links! I don't go to the beach either. Well, I do... but I go there every weekend to volunteer, not to swim. I won't swim in the ocean now that I know all the nasty stuff that's out there (tapeworms, eww!). I guess I shouldn't care if only the neighbors and people passing by can view me in a bikini?

I tend to buy bikinis normally but, recently I have bought a sports type one with a racer back as we go on holiday to Florida soon and I want somehting that will stay on during the waterslides! lol

LOL! Yes, it is definitely smart to pick something that will stay on. I always wondered that about bikinis, if they really stay on while you're swimming and stuff. Mostly I've just seen people hanging out and tanning in them, and since I can't get a tan, that doesn't really work for me. Not that I'm much of a swimmer either, but I just prefer the suit doesn't fall off while I'm attempting to swim (I did have that problem once with tankini bottoms, yikes!).

I hate going shopping for swimsuits!! It makes me feel so fat! And yes I also have stretch marks too so those bikinis are out for me!! I would have to say that is one of the worst things about having kids.....the stretch marks! No sexy body for me no more to show off in a suit!

Aww! Well, the sad thing is I haven't even had any kids yet... I just have stretch marks anyway! I don't know how that happened but they are horrible. Bikinis and anything that shows my thighs are kind of out for me. I like the tankinis with the shorts, but it is so hard to look good in a swimsuit! I'm glad to know I'm not alone. :)

You must be one of those lucky people with a bikini body. I don't tan at all, so the tan lines never even happen with the regular swimsuits for me. So I guess that's good because otherwise I probbaly would have weird tan lines with the suits I pick.
