I guess allergy season is starting. I am all clogged up and my head is pounding. I hate to start taking my daily allergy pills. They make me so sleepy. Hows your allergys?

I take pills that don't make me sleepy. I'm on a double dose every day year round. The generic name is Cetirizine. It's a great pill if you take it every day. It won't make you sleepy or hyper.

Mine are just terrible, lol. I'm constantly sneezing, my head hurts all the time, my eyes are always watery, well you know the symptoms obviously, lol. It's crazy because I've never really had allergies either untill just a few years ago and it's just getting worse. I usually take claritin or some other over the counter allergy medicines. Some help and some don't. None have ever really made me drowsy except for benadryl so I won't take those unless it's at night. Hope you feel better:)

hello moneymommy for the past several days, i guess that i would have what you would call a sinus headache as well. when i bend over to pick something up like toys or clothes or things like that around the house, my head aches like crazy. i have been taking ibuprofen's, (i hope that i spelled that correctly) for my headache pain. and yesterday i had not really a sore throat but a dry itchy throat all day long. my throat is better this afternoon thou. and it is awful early in the year to be getting allergies. you know? it is just February, what is it going to be like when April and May gets here? ten times as worse for all of us that do suffer with allergies? take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

I have lots of allergies too. To food, grass, dust, long list. I don't like to take pills, the same way you don't - makes me sleepy all day. But I found that if I take only half pill, before going to sleep at night, makes me feel better all day next day, and not very sleepy. A coffee will keep me awake and good to go for the day. maybe you should try only half pill too. Or maybe to try those "non-drowsy" new kind of pills that are on the market now. Good luck!

I have allergies too. As Catlady said Cetirizine doesn't make you drowsy, like many other anti-histamines. If your head is pounding it sounds like sinus trouble, which often happens with allergies. My cure for that is to inhale Olbas oil. Just put a couple of drops on a tissue and pin it to your chest (not literally) and you are gradually inhaling it all the time. Or put a few drops at the edge of your pillow or bed-cover at night, somewhere that doesn't touch your skin as it can cause irritation.

Olbas oil is a mixture of cajuput oil, clove oil, eucalyptus oil, juniper berry oil, menthol, mint oil and wintergreen oil it is manufactued by G.R.Lane Health Products, Gloucester, England. You can probably get something similar in the US, perhaps where they sell health foods - it's not expensive either and one little bottle lasts for ages.

hi moneymommy , from bignik , only a few words on allergies,my cousin is a doctor with many years of experience in nutrition, and we were talking about allergies a few years ago , because he was doing some research he found out that many allergic situations derive from the different foods we intake that over a long period of time can create to intollerance or allergies, for example there are many poeple who become allergic to milk, prawns, and so on, many poeple dont even know that they are starting to become allergic to a certain substance untill the have symptoms of an allergy, so what i think is to get on a healthy diet and lifestyle , and cut down on junk foods and animal fats, and refined sugars , please forgive my english it is not so good,i live here in italy on the island of Sardinia where there is lots of country farms and good fresh air, with very little or no smog, that is also another good factor to have good quality breathing air and some exercise, have you done an allergy test? will be back soon if you have a question , just ask, saluti to all from BIGNIK
