Cheap shoes or Expensive shoes?

My son needed new(bigger) shoes at the beginning of the school year. I did not have a whole lot of money, so it was either pay almost $50 for a new pair of Sketchers or get him a few new pairs of jeans and cheap pair of shoes. I chose the cheap shoes and jeans. I am regretting that now. He has torn up his cheap shoes so quickly. His Sketchers were still in great shape they were just getting too small. Do you go for the more expensive shoes that will last longer and deal with how much they cost or do you buy the cheap shoes so you will have some money left for other things?

I buy the cheap shoes. I find they last about as long as the name brand shoes. I dont find a difference in the ware and tare.

I think that I don't agree with that idea. I would rather buy more expensive shoes because they don't get the wear and tear as fast as the cheaper ones. Sometimes you just have to spend more money for the quality. There is a difference in my opinion.

Yeah lilybug and if he's anything like my nephews, they can tear shoes up in no time. I don't know why boys are harder on shoes than girls are, I guess they just don't care what they do. I have a nephew that is 9, and his mom can buy him shoes, and within a couple months he's already got holes in them or the soles are coming off, I don't know what he does with them. She has to buy the more expensive brand so he'll have shoes to wear a little longer.

I have two boys so there is one place that I do not cut corners and that is shoes! LOL I am just like you and I have learned along the way that this is not an area that I can cut back in, at least not with boys. I have went with cheaper T-shirts and jeans sometimes but they wear their shoes out so fast I have to get something that will take their abuse! LOL And Sketchers are good ones too! But we all live and learn!

Yeah, those Sketchers really held up. Too bad the boys feet had to grow.

I can definitely understand that you would want to cut corners especially where children are concerned. But when it comes to how fast they go through the clothes you really want to spend more money so it can have some endurance for what the boys put it through!

I always buy the better made shoes. Lots of times I can find them onsale or I have a good coupon from the store where I purchase them. It is worth spending them extra money to have good supporting shoes that will last. Especially when they are little, they need the good shoes for their feet to be supported properly.

I got the better ones at Shoe Carnival, but the cheap ones were from Walmart. Shoe Carnival does a buy one get one half off sometimes. Maybe I can get him and his sister some new shoes this weekend.

I think that old saying is true. You get what you pay for. Two years ago I came into some extra money. I was all set to buy an expensive brand name running shoe and really had no idea just HOW expensive they were. So I nixed that idea and went to one of the cheap store chains near me. With the same amount of money I would have spent for just one pair of those expensive running shoes (like Nike) I was able to get four pairs of shoes instead. I really regretted it though, not so much that they wore out faster, although they did, but they literally ruined my feet and resulted in severe foot pain. When I came into some extra money last year, I decided to once more get expensive shoes...so I got a pair of Easy Spirit Walking Shoes and haven't regretted it...they are the most comfortable shoes I've worn in a long time and are really durable..I've worn them in all kinds of weather..even snowstorms!

My son has REALLY flat feet too, so I think the higher quality shoes would be better for him anyway. He does sometimes complain that his feet hurt.

I buy both kinds of shoes. I have some cheap ones and I have some more expensive ones. I buy the cheaper ones more often as i usually live in my flip flops in less i have to wear shoes or i am walking/running... but I also need some good ones, nice looking ones for going out and those ones are always more expensive.

I hate wearing real shoes. I buy cheap shoes for myself because I don't wear them that much, so I don't wear them out as quickly as a 9 year old boy.

well that depends. Because for me, i buy cheap shoes somewhat in bulk. So when one gets torn, i simply throw it away and wear another cheap one. So my heart technically doesn't really feel the pinch of it. I know how it feels to be on a tight budget and things like these are a necessity. Think of it in another way, at least you managed to get him new jeans. If you had bought him Sketches, he won't have jeans to wear. It's really all about opportunity cost.

Hi there lilybug! I would only spend on something expensive if I know that the item is of the best quality. There are a lot of products out in the market that are very expensive and yet they are easily destroyed. I buy shoes that are of good quality so it could last a long time even if I always use it. I would rather do that than buy something inexpensive only to buy another pair soon just because it is already destroyed.

When my son was growing (and getting bigger feet) every few months (it seemed) then we always opted for cheaper things. Now that his fee have remained the same size for awhile, I am trying to get the better ones. A lot depends on how much we have to spend in our budget unfortunately, but I want his feet to be comfortable, so try to get the better shoes which cost more.

I would invest on a pair of expensive shoes so that it will last longer but expensive as in not over 300 dollars. Normally will get a good pair of branded shoes during sales. I have a pair of blue reebok soft sports shoes...its lasted me for more than 5 years now. Used it for hiking, dance practise and still in good condition. I have another pair of sandals which can go with skirts, that one is handmade by a cobbler who once made shoes for the RAAF navy so the shoes are well made with good quality. It is lasting. And I halso have a pair of crocodile brand white sandals....also bought it during 50% sales...good quality. So it looks like I won't be getting any pair of shoes for a long time. And most of my shoes are bought for me by my husband...

For me i'd rather pay for the branded shoes because it lasts longer. I have one Adidas shoe that i bought in Dec 2003, I'm still waering it and til lately the synthetic leather material start to come off. But i had one experince when i bought a pair of Nike sandals it only lasted me for a year just like the cheap sandals and it really disappointed me.

I don't know where you are located, we have stores here that stock last years style and over stocks, you can get very good brands there for much less. You just have to keep looking and not be picky about the style. Ross is one of those stores in the USA

My shoes are all cheap.Expensive shoes do last longer and maybe more comfortable than cheap ones, but you will get tired of it.They may stay in shape but they are not in anymore.I like cheap and fashion shoes. They can also be comfortable.

My two boys are hard on shoes no matter what brand you buy them! I tend to buy 2 pairs of cheap shoes when we go shopping. One pair they can wear for play and the other are for when we need to go somewhere or school. I have bought expensive shoes for my boys in the past and they seem to wear out just as quickly as the cheap shoes.

I would rather buy the more expensive shoe, because in the long run you will be buyinga another pair quickly of cheap shoes, like in your case. Try going online to see if you can find some discount prices. I found this website, hope it helps, because I do not know the going price for sketchers. http://www.shoebuy.com/discount-skechers-sort-by-brand-z-to-a.htm

I go for expensive shoes, because it last longer.I have experienced this with my four children while they were still in school age.I don't have to buy shoes yearly that is how I can save money. The younger sibling can still use when she had outgrown the pair of shoes.
