Phew, long question. But don't make you answer too short. Can you name the book where God is not mentioned? And while you're at it, do you know the shortest verse in the Bible. Ah, these are the questions that make one go . . . Hmmm.

The shortest verse in the bible is not John 11:35; it is Job 3:2. The book in the bible where God is not mention is the book of Esther. My answer are not very common but check, it is true.

Word count, it is a tie. Letter count, Job 3:2 wins!

I didn't know that about Job 3:2.. my New Amer Standard Bible says, "and Job said" but my King James says "and Job spake and said".

You are correct ronharold. My question then, should have been, which two books in the Bible do not mention God. It is indeed, Song of Solomon and the book of Esther. Thanks for pointing that out. And thanks . . . always . . . Thor, doing a letter count!!!??? Oh my. Okay so there are two "shortest" scriptures. Learning together is so much fun.

Nice, well done. I have a confession--I knew the scripture but I didn't know where to find it. Now I do. Thanks.

that is not the shortest verse in the bible. the shortest verse can be found on the book of Job. Read Job 3:2.

Job 3:2 is longer in the KJV Job 2:3 And Job spake, and said, John 11:35 Jesus wept. Of course it may be rendered less accurately in some versions all the best urban

Song of Solomon does not mention the Lord. So you are right. But we've stumbled upon a little bit of information here and that is the book of Esther also does not mention God. Anyway, hope you're having a wonderful week and many blessings to you, my friend.

I had to go check out Revelation, though I was sure it mentioned God. It does, right in the first verse. It's actually the book, Song of Songs, that does not mention God. It's sort of a "musical" between the lovers--King Solomon and his bride. You're right about the shortest verse, it is indeed, "Jesus wept." Thanks for your input, Winterose.

The shortest verse in the Bible is John 11:35 - Jesus wept. I know that the Song of Solomon was a love poem or advise to the young in regards to finding a godly spouse, and so God was not mentioned in it. some people think it is analogy about one's walk with God, but I do not. Anyway it is quite beautiful and I do know that Solomon wrote it. I have no idea who the girl was though or her young man.

I never thought about who the young man would be. I automatically assumed it was Solomon. Very interesting. Maybe someone else could shed some more light on this. We also, through this discussion, were informed of another verse that was even shorter than "Jesus wept," but only by letter count. And both the book of Esther and Song of Solomon do not mention God. I totally forgot about Esther, though it surely reflect God. Thanks for your input, my friend.

I do not think it was Solomon. I think that Solomon was in love with the girl and wanted her to be one of his wives, but the girl was in love with either a shepherd, a herdsman, or someone who was not wealthy. And she was thinking of him while the other ladies of the court were trying to make her feel so wonderful that Solomon himself wanted to make her one of his wives.
