Fondant or Frosting?

I've been checking out recipes for cupcakes, and I'm trying to decide whether I should just go for easy with frosting, or go for really nice looking with fondant. Which do you prefer? Why?

Frosting. Just some things you can't change. I watch the cooking shows of Challenges for baking cakes and such, Ace of Cakes is another one and they all use fondant - it is just not something to change. Fondant just is so smoothe and perfect and structured and so..uniform. Frosting is just the best.

Go with frosting. Fondant looks pretty, but it does not taste as good as a cream cheese or a butter creme frosting. Frosting is messier though.

I know I've heard, or atleast think I have, of fondant. If you could give me a description of the taste comparison, and maybe a visual of what it looks like, I'd be better to give you my opinion. I like frosting though.
